the fox and the tanuki (a japanese quilt story)
Once, there was a fox named Naruto and a tanuki named Gaara. They were spending a day in sand village when Naruto, being the boastful fox that he was, started teasing Gaara. "Every one knows that my henge no jutsu is better than yours."
Gaara snorted, not even bothering to dignify that comment with an answer.
"It's true though! If you don't believe me, let's have a contest."
"Fine."
And so it was agreed that Naruta and Gaara would have a contest. The next day, Naruto ran to the street that he knew Gaara would be walking down that day. "I better outdo that stuck up psycho, or else no one will ever take me seriously."
Naruto spotted a memorial statue on the side of the street.
"Perfect!" He thouht, as he transformed into the statue of the third kazekage. Soon enough Gaara came along. He got to the statue and became very hungry. He took out two ramen bowls, one for him, and one to place before the statue as an offering. He closed his eyes to offer a prayer to the kazekage, but when he opened them again the ramen he had placed as an offering was gone. He was surprised, but the more he thought about it, the more he thought maybe he had forgotten to make the offering. He placed another ramen bowl there and closed his eyes again, but opened them as quickly as he had closed them. There, in front of him, the statue was holding a half eaten bowl of ramen in one hand.
"Hey!" shouted Gaara, as he snatched the ramen away. The statue quickly turned back into Naruto, who started laughing at the fox.
"Pretty good, huh? Ne... do you think I could finish that ramen?" Naruto grabbed the ramen back from Gaara, finishing it in one gulp. "Now it's your turn."
"Fine," said Gaara. "Tomorrow at noon I'll change into the current kazekage and come down this street."
The next day Naruto waited by the street, and sure enough at noon a regal procession came down the street. It was very extravagant, with shinobi matching before the kazekage's carriage. Naruto was so impressed he ran to the carriage, not changing into his human form, shouting, "Gaara! You beat me! I'm impressed!"
However, the procession wasn't a transformation of Gaara at all- it was the real thing. Gaara was just that mad that Naruto had eaten his ramen. And so the shinobi guarding the kazekage promptly came forward and gave Naruto a good beating before he could even reach the carriage.
