The Last Paladin Of Morrowind
In the days following the death of both the mad Dunmer Dagoth Ur and the Man-God Tribunal, The Nerevarine, the reincarnation of the famed Chimeri chieftain Indoril Nerevar, had seen more than their fair share of tyrants and evildoers misuse the Heart of Lorkhan. Wishing to prevent any others from using the Heart to achieve false godhood, The Nerevarine created a secret order devoted to the guarding of both the Heart and the three unholy tools used to tap its power: Wraithguard, Sunder, and Keening. These men and women the Nerevarine gathered from across the continent of Tamriel became known as Paladins; devoted to denying anyone, no matter what purpose, access to Lord Kagrenac's constructs. Not even in the face of Armageddon at the end of the Third Era, when Mehrunes Dagon and his Mythic Dawn brought an Empire to its knees, would the Paladins surrender the tools. As Morrowind ate itself alive and Daedra poured out from the Deadlands, a great civil war took place in the order over whether or not to use the Heart to beat back the Daedra. Many Paladins lost their lives in the conflict, but were still instrumental in protecting what remained of Morrowind after the struggle between the Great Houses. Once Dagon had been defeated, all was well. . .
Until the 171st year of the Fourth Era.
In this year, The Thalmor of the Summerset Isles and the Cyrodilic Empire of Man clashed in monstrous war. This meant little for Morrowind. The Dunmer homeland was still recovering from the eruption of Red Mountain in the 5th year of the Fourth Era. The destruction caused had annihilated many Dunmeri towns and settlements. This all changed when Emperor Titus Mede II approached Lleris Moren, a Dunmer and the leader of the Paladins, and asked her for her assistance in retrieving important Thalmor documents, relating to war strategies and the like. The Paladins had lain untouched for almost two centuries, and no worry came to Lleris. Her subordinates infiltrated the Crystal Tower behind enemy lines with remarkable ease, and said documents were turned over to the Empire. They would eventually result in the recapture of the Imperial City and the subsequent Battle of the Red Ring. But not even this great Imperial victory could equal the cost. The documents had been allowed to fall into Paladin hands, branded with a unique tracking spell and led the Thalmor straight to the secret meeting place of the Paladins in Morrowind.
Every Paladin is thought to have perished in a brutal battle known as the Twilight of the Sliver Blades. The Thalmor seized Wraithguard and Sunder. The Heart's whereabouts are unknown.
Soon after, the White-Gold Concordat was signed, and the Great War of the Fourth Era was over. The Empire had been brought to its knees yet again. The Thalmor reigned supreme over a divided and bleeding Tamriel. And the Paladins were extinct.
. . .Or so Nirn believed.
A Nord man named Yrkan crosses the Cyrodilic border into his homeland of Skyrim, carrying with him a dagger forged by Dwarves in ages past and a death sentence on his head. Little does he know of the destiny that lies before the Last Paladin of Morrowind . . .
