"Gerry what were you thinking?! I hate blueberries." Sandra asked as she walked into the office to see a tub of blueberries sitting out. Usually Gerry brought in something new for them to try every Friday but today he'd brought in blueberries.
"Who said they were for you?" Gerry replied pretending to be annoyed.
"It Friday! You bring in nice food on a Friday!" Sandra replied while debating giving up this argument as it was his kindness which led to him bringing food in anyway.
"Maybe I decided it was someone else's turn for a change." Gerry stopped to clock her reaction before continuing. "Just kidding, I know you don't like them so there's a special little cake on your desk." She smiled, thanked him and walked through to her desk.
Sat on her desk was a small heart shaped cupcake with thick icing on with another heart iced in red on top of that. She was yet to find out the significance of the shape and yet somehow the thought was far from her head, instead she chose to eat it and carry on with the normal days work.
"Like the cake?" Gerry asked as he popped his head round the door when it was nearing the end of the working day.
"When have I not liked anything you've made?"
"I don't know, I'm sure I'd know of you hadn't liked one. Then again you know I'd never bake for you again if you complained, and well I'm sure it's the only proper food you get in the week."
"I have takeaways and an occasional ready meal."
"I said proper food."
"Well it's all food, all does the same thing."
"No Sandra, proper food gives you energy and helps you to concentrate; neither of which you've had recently. That's why you got a cake because there's a lot of sugar in it for an instant boost of energy then the rest slowly releases energy, or all that rubbish!" Gerry told her and now she couldn't deny the fact her concentration levels or energy were slowly decreasing but she hadn't considered the problem to be the food, it was the person making the food.
"Why are you so bothered? I'm still doing my job so it doesn't concern you." Sandra asked as she sensed the conversation getting too personal and immediately closed off.
"Remember this morning when I said it was a special little cake, did you ever figure out how it was special?"
"Because you only made me one." Sandra replied, confused at the sudden conversation change.
"No, try again."
"I don't know Gerry, it was a blooming cupcake, it was no more special than any other one you've given me before."
"No, think about it. Something was different."
"I have no idea what this pathetic thing is, just tell me what made it so special!"
"The shape! I decided it was time to tell the truth. You need taking care of and well I want to be the one to do it." Gerry revealed.
"I do not need a full time carer and even if I did why would you be it?! We spend so much time at each others throats."
"Because I love you." Now the shape of the cake, the proper food lecture and well everything else made sense, he loved her.
