Eponine was five years old when she remembers, or to be more accurate truly understands what her dreams mean, when a woman by the name of Fantine drops her daughter of to live with her family. When Cosette turns around and looks into Eponine chocolate coloured orbs with her azure gaze does Eponine feel as if she is transported back to 1820 and Montfermeil and to her parent's inn. She remembers how cruel she was to the lark back then and makes a promise to herself that she would not be cruel to her in this lifetime.
It will be two weeks after this that she will be hit by her father for the first time in this lifetime for associating with the slave girl. So Eponine made up her mind to be only cruel to Cosette in front of her parents, from that moment on Cosette and Eponine became the best of friends in secret and as the years progressed and Cosette's chore list became longer and her clothes scabbier. Eponine would help out from the shadows by sneaking her food, helping with her chores and giving her extra blankets during the winter. Azelma, Eponine younger sister, also took part in this deal, however this all changed when a man in a yellow coat who was friends with Fantine took Cosette away from the inn and as the friends hugged each other goodbye Cosette whispered in her ear "We will see each other again in Paris just like we did last time." It was at that moment that Eponine realised that Cosette remembered their past and that she had been forgiven for all her past actions.
