A/N: These were for two friends who wanted me to do this, Nicole and Liz, whom you can both find on tumblr as jaredhower and hawthorners, respectively. Plus, it's a shame this pairing is so unpopular, and I hope to do it justice, which knowing me, I probably didn't. But nevertheless, I hope you enjoy.

She's sound asleep, and he's wide awake. Just like most of the nights they spend together. Apparently, recorded episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender weren't enough to entertain her for the night (he's always wanted to love her just as Zuko loved Mai) Or perhaps she's just so worn out. But he's not surprised; Clary always falls asleep first.

He takes her body into his arms, settling her face against his chest. If she goes in her mind where he can't follow, then perhaps he could protect her from the nightmares. He kisses the top of her head, and strokes her perfect locks of long, red hair. "Goodnight, love," he whispers, not expecting anything back.

Simon's spent his entire lifetime hearing people talk about the ones they love, expecting lavish gifts and even better sex. But then, he realizes it really is all the little things she does that are enough of a gift to him. The way her red hair stands out in the sunlight. The way she would be so immersed in her paintings. Watching anime together at three in the morning.

A moment of reality passes, where it dawns upon him. I'll never deserve her. She'll never let me love her. Years from now, holding her like this is going to be nothing but a memory. I'm nothing special, aren't I?

"Give it some time," his mother had told her what seemed like almost an eternity ago. "She'll see what's right in front of her. The best you can do is be there for her, be there with her. She may not see it, but give her your love."

He sighs heavily, relaxing his arms so that Clary could be more comfortable, tangling his hands into her hair. And just for a second, he swears he sees a crooked smile forming from the half-aware girl he's holding.

A/N: well that was different. I don't think I've ever written anything ship-related before. And I always thought Clary and Simon would be fans of ATLA, given that the show was airing around the time this would have taken place. It's a show I like a lot, I haven't written for it yet due to my lack of creativity. I don't own either of these things.
