It had been a relatively uneventful day at Smash Mansion. There had been brawls as usual, but aside from that, the day had been fairly relaxing.

Link sat outside under a tree; softly humming a gentle tune, whilst enjoying the feel of the breeze blowing his dirty blond hair out of his face. He closed his eyes and breathed in the fresh air through his nose, and exhaled with a deep sigh. The wind picked up a little, causing Link's hat to shiver.

"Hey!"

Link ignored the call, knowing all too well that it was Navi, the fairy who made a home of his hat, trying to tell him something that he already knew.

"Listen!"

. . .

"Hey!"

. . .

"Hello!"

. . .

"Hey!"

Link groaned. "What?" He whined, not wanting to ruin this perfect moment.

"Link, there is a storm approaching! I would take cover!" Navi advised.

Link opened his eyes. "What are you talking about? It's a –" He looked to the east. "—not . . . so beautiful day," He finished, eyebrows knitting together in confusion. "Where in Hylia's name did that come from?"

There were dark, grey clouds looming high above. The wind grew stronger; rustling the trees. Link stood up and began back towards the mansion.

"Hey, thanks, Navi." He said for what seemed to be the first time. The fairy giggled from inside the hero's hat in reply.

About halfway back to the mansion, it began to rain. Link broke into a run, but by the time he reached the doors, his clothes and hair were sopping. He walked inside and sighed, taking off his hat and shaking his head like a wolf* to rid his hair of the water.

"Hey!"

Link turned to see Marth, the prince of Altea, standing a few feet away, wiping his face dry.

"Oh, sorry, Marth. I didn't see you there." The hero apologized.

"Its fine," The prince brushed it off. "Hey, I don't think I've ever seen you without your hat on before, Link," Marth pointed out.

Link laughed. "Really? I guess I do wear it all the time. Well, unless I'm sleeping."

Marth laughed.

"I should probably change," Link said, gesturing to his soaked tunic.

His friend laughed again. "I think that would be for the best."

Link walked upstairs to the room that he shared with Toon Link, and went looking for one of his other tunics. He found the red one first, and replaced his wet green outfit with it. Thunder boomed outside; the storm was getting worse. Link went back downstairs to what the Smasher s referred to as the "commons", and spotted Zelda sitting at one of the tables; a book in front of her.

"Hey, Zelda." Link approached the princess and took a seat next to her.

"Oh, hello, Link." She looked up from her book and gave the Hero of Twilight a smile, which quickly turned to a concerned frown. "Why are you wearing your red tunic? And why is your hair so wet?"

"Oh," Link felt heat rise to his cheeks self-consciously. "I was outside when it started to rain; I didn't make it to the door in time." He smiled sheepishly.

Zelda laughed.

"Hey!" Link gave her a playful shove. She laughed again and shoved him back, almost causing him to topple out of his seat.

"Oops, sorry." Zelda giggled.

Link laughed, too. "Its okay. Trust me, I've fallen many a time."

"I would expect no less from someone as clumsy as you," The princess pointed out.

"Okay, okay. Can we be nice now?" The hero whined jokingly.

Zelda laughed again.

Link rolled his eyes. "So, what book are you reading?" He changed the subject.

"Well, I've been looking to know more about where the other Smashers here come from. Right now I'm reading a history on Skyworld," The princess told him.

"Oh," Link tried to sound interested, though history was . . . let's say not one of his favorite topics. "That's cool. That's where Pit is from, right?"

"Yes. I was about to start a chapter on Palutena just now."

"Oh, well, if you want me to I could—"

"Link, its fine. I enjoy talking to you."

"Really?" Link mentally face palmed. He must sound like an idiot.

Zelda laughed. "Yes, Link, really." She confirmed. "As annoying as you are,-"

"Okay, okay, let's not go there!" Link interrupted.

The princess laughed again. "I'm kidding, Link. You stress too much. You're the best friend I could ever have."

Pit hoped Palutena would forgive him. He didn't want to do it . . . he didn't even know why Ganondorf had put him up to it. What was he planning? The angel ran through the hallways, panting, until he reached the second floor, where he knew Link's room was.

Why am I doing this? Pit thought, frustrated.

Oh, yeah, because if I don't, Ganondorf will rip my wings off feather by feather if I don't!

Pit sighed. He was weak. To scared for his own good than other people.

On the other hand, whatever he was going to send Link to couldn't be that bad, right? There would be dire punishments for harming another Smasher outside of brawls, and everyone knew that. Besides, Link could defend himself. He had beaten Ganondorf before.

Pit arrived at Link's room and knocked on the door loudly. "Link!" He called. "Open up!"

The door opened, Link standing on the other side. "What—are you okay, Pit?" The hero's face creased with worry when he saw the angel's desperate face.

Thunder boomed outside, and Pit flinched. "We can't find Nana! She was outside taking a walk in the forest when the storm moved in!" He panted. "We think she's lost!"

"How long has she been out there?" Link asked.

"I don't know . . . not too long."

"I'll go look for her," Link suggested, and ran down the stairs.

"I'll come with you!" Pit said. Maybe if he went, he could be sure nothing to bad happened to the Hero of Twilight.

"No, you stay and keep an eye out in case she comes back," Link said.

Pit frowned, but nodded as Link opened the door and looked out into the rain. He sighed, and pulled from his pocket an odd-looking orange and black . . . rock? Upon contact, he transformed into his wolf form, and dashed out of the building.

Pit closed the door behind Link and bit his lip. He really hoped he hadn't just made a terrible mistake.

Link ran across the field that was the front yard of Smash Mansion until he reached the edge of the forest. Transforming back into a human, he stepped into the dense woods. He had been walking for what felt like nearly an hour, but he hadn't seen anything. Just as he decided to go back to the mansion and check to see if Nana had found her way back on her own, he heard what sounded like footsteps behind him. Link stopped walking and looked around. When he didn't see anything of interest, he continued forward until he reached the edge of the forest. He was just about to transform into a wolf and run back to the mansion, when suddenly something struck him in the back of the head. His vision turned fuzzy, and he fell to his knees, head throbbing.

A deku nut.

Wait . . . you can only find those in Hyrule . . .

Link barely had time to look up into shining red orbs before everything went black.
