Disclaimer: I own nothing of The Sons of Anarchy, sometimes I take them out of the box and play with it for a little while, I do however own Nora Telford.
Summary: Growing up in Belfast, Northern-Ireland Nora Telford witnessed things that she should have never seen. She barely when her older half-brother Filip "Chibs" Telford left Ireland and his family for good. When she received word that he was in a coma in Charming, California she did the only thing she could think to do and boarded a plane without a second thought. Nothing could prepare her for what she was going to find.
Author's Note: Just wanted to say that it took me a while to decide what to with the original version of this story. I loved the idea that I had behind it and the character development but after I started it I had a lot of trouble making the story work. After reading back over it and rewatching season 2 I realized that instead of starting in Belfast mid-season 3 I should have started it during season 2 when Chibs was originally hurt.
Chapter 1: Reunions
Nora Telford had her hood pulled up over her long blonde hair and was wearing a pair of aviator sunglasses as she made her way into St. Thomas Hospital in Charming, her arms wrapped around her middle. The overwhelming smell of ammonia filled her sense making her nauseous. At the same time, it was comforting it was a familiar smell one thing that was the same half a world away as it was here. Throughout her whole flight from Belfast to Charming, she kept replying the last time she'd been to the small town. Her visits had always been sporadic and her presence in the small town kept a secret because of the bastard Jimmy O'Phelan. She might not have been in the middle of the Real IRA's dealing but he liked to believe that he could control her in ways that he controlled Fiona and Kerianne and considering that she didn't want the back of her head blown out she accepted this. The times that she'd been able to get away for a few days to see her brother had been a hardship on Maureen, Trinity, and McGee. The last time she'd come had been a really close call and she didn't want to put her foster family through that again. This time had been different though; the moment McGee received the call from Clay Marrow telling him about what had happened to her brother. Filip was in a coma and neither hell nor high water was keeping her away from Charming. Now that she was there, at the hospital, well she'd never felt more terrified in her whole life.
After stopping by the courtesy desk and getting her brother's room number Nora made her way to the ICU floor where he was being kept at. When she made it to the room, nothing had prepared her for the condition which she found him in. He was pale, his head wrapped in bandages and her had tubes and wires connected to him and the room was full of sounds from the machines they were connecting him to. He wasn't the cocky Scotsman she knew him as, like this he was weak and vulnerable. Nora's eyes filled with tears as she leaned down and pressed a kiss to his forehead. "Now Filip why in the fuck did ya go and get yerself blown up?" she asked softly as she took the chair beside of the bed.
Nora had no idea how long she set there beside of him, sometimes she talked to him other times she just stared into nothingness with only the sound of the breathing machines to keep them company. She told him about all the trouble the IRA were in and how Jimmy O had led them into a path of ruin all for the all mighty dollar. Before she realized it she was coming awake to the sounds of footsteps entering the room. "Well…well look what the cat dragged in." a female voice said. "Kinda figured I'd find you here."
Nora couldn't help but smile when she heard the voice of Gemma Teller-Marrow. She slowly stood up, stretched and walked over to the older woman and hugged her tightly, "How did you know I'd come?"
"Gotta a call from McGee," she said. "Besides if it was my brother laid up I'd be here too."
"The doctor's haven't been in since I've been here." Nora said pushing her hood back and pulling her glasses off. "I tried to read his chart but it was full of all kinds of medical bullshit."
Gemma nodded as she set down in the other chair, "He came out of surgery really well, and he's stable. They'll know more when he wakes up."
Nora nodded as she pushed her hand through her long hair and looked over at her brother. "It scares me Gemma…he's all the family I have left. Him and Padraic and Kerrianne."
"What about Fiona?" she asked.
Nora snorted, "That bitch stopped being anything of family to me a long time ago."
"You look like shit." Gemma said, "Where are you staying?"
"The Ramada by the interstate." Nora shrugged.
"That won't do." She shook her head. "We got a shit storm going on in this town. You'll need protection while you're here."
Nora shook her head, "I don't know Gemma, I'd rather slip under the radar. Jimmy O doesn't know that I came and I'd like to keep it that way."
Gemma raised an eyebrow, "You really think you made it out of Belfast without Jimmy O'Phelan knowing? We both know that he already knows you're here. Besides he's not even on our radar right now, problems that are a little closer to home."
Nora looked over at her brother and back to Gemma, "You mean who hurt my brother."
Gemma nodded, "I do, I'll tell you all about it but first you need a shower, a hot meal, and a bed."
Maybe it was the fact that she was too exhausted, emotionally and physically to put up much of a fight anyway but Nora gave in. She wanted to know the details of what happened to her brother but right now she needed to just be taken care of.
