A/N: I always wondered why Luke or the sensors couldn't detect the Wampa. I figured I would just make the Wampa Force-resistant and undetectable.

Hoth was the most inhospitable planet Anakin had ever been on. Being from Tatooine, he was accustomed to warmer temperatures but tolerated cold fairly well. Hoth however, was nothing like Anakin had ever experienced. He and Obi-Wan were wearing several layers of protective clothing, goggles, gloves, and hats over their Jedi tunics. Even that wasn't enough to beat the bitterly cold temperatures.

If there is anything on this planet, I don't think I could feel my fingers to grab my lightsaber. Why did you sign us up for this mission?

It was hardly as if I got a choice in the matter. We'll be at the shelter soon enough, Anakin. I don't think there's anything out here.

Dexter says his source was positive of a Separatist base in this sector.

It could be a false trail. Do we even know who this contact is we're supposed to meet?

I don't know, Anakin.

It could be a trap.

Possibly.

The shelter was another thirty meters, Anakin could just make out the silver metal domes of the generators peering through the snow banks. It was the only change in the landscape Anakin had seen. He had no idea how they were going to return to their ship. It was likely to completely covered by the time they returned. The landscape here was all the same, they could wander for hours and not see a change in their surroundings.

A snowbank moved.

Did you see that?

Obi-Wan cast a worried look over in Anakin's direction. I don't sense anything. The sensors aren't picking anything up either.

If his face wasn't so frozen he would have frowned. I can't sense it, but I saw it.

It was most likely just another trick of the snowstorm, Anakin.

Great. Sand mirages and now snow mirages.

I wouldn't put it quite like that, but yes.

The snow mirage howled two seconds before it brought a massive claw forward to take a swipe at one of the intruders. Anakin tumbled to the ground, one gloved hand fumbling on his utility belt for his lightsaber. The wampa kept up his barrage of wild swings, one nail slicing through Anakin's arm. Anakin frantically tried twisting away, his efforts pushing himself deeper and deeper into the snowbank.

Hold on, Anakin!

Obi-Wan finally extracted his blade. The wampa turned his attention away from Anakin and instead lumbered towards Obi-Wan. Movements hindered by the heavy snow and his sluggish, frozen limbs, Obi-Wan was unable to do anything but wildly swing his lightsaber, trying to brush snow off his goggles enough to dissociate the creature from its background. The most Obi-Wan could really do was buy enough time for Anakin to struggle slowly to his feet.

Anakin was on his feet, blue blade extended at the very moment the wampa reached out and crushed Obi-Wan in its grasp. His lightsaber fell from his grasp, melting through the many layers of snow. There was a horrifying crack and a stifled scream from Obi-Wan, lasting a mere second before Anakin plunged his lightsaber through the creature's back.
