Not A Coward

When H.R. took Iris' place he knew there was a chance he would die but he hoped that Tracy's Speed Force bazooka would work. When it didn't and Savitar lifted him from the ground H.R. knew what was going to happen and tried to prepare himself. It was his fault that Savitar had found Iris and like he told Iris when he switched places with her he needed to remedy that. What was about to happen next was a part of doing just that. "You stuck me with Speed Force for an eternity of hell" Savitar said "now welcome to yours." "No don't do this" Barry pleaded, desperation and despair filling his every word "don't do this!" "Now finally I am free of you" Savitar said raising his right arm. H.R. opened his mouth and remembering he was supposed be Iris said "Barry." "I'm begging you, just.." Barry said "Barry" H.R. cried. "You lose Barry" Savitar said and unsheathed the blade in his right arm. "No!" Barry cried and became a blur as he started to run. Pain erupted throughout his body as H.R. felt Savitar's blade entering his back and part of it exiting his chest and he let out a gasp. The blade was then withdrawn as quickly as it had entered and H.R. began to fall. He closed his eyes and felt Barry's arms around him as he caught him before his body touched the ground. "Iris, Iris, Iris!" he cried and when H.R. made no reply Barry holds his body close sobbing till H.R. drumsticks clatter to the ground. H.R. opens his eyes and starts gasping. "Iris? Iris?" Barry asks "B.A.?" H.R. asks "what?" Barry asked confused. H.R. lifts his hand and turns off the transmogrifier revealing his face "B.A." he said again. Barry looks down at him with various emotions on his face as his brain was clearly trying to comprehend what happened. "H.R." Tracy said as she ran up to where he was lying in Barry's arms. "Tracy" H.R. said. Barry moved out the way and Tracy took his place "No, no, no," she said as she shook her head. "It's..it's okay" H.R. said with a grimace. "Why are you doing this?" Tracy asked. "I couldn't be a coward" H.R. answered "I'm not a coward" "We just found each other" Tracy said. "I know" H.R. said. If this was one of his novels he would have saved the day without dying and the novel would end with him and Tracy together (probably in bed) but this wasn't one of his novels. Slowly he reached up with his right hand and touched her face. "Our story would be brilliant" he said "you will be brilliant. You will be glorious Tracy Brand. You will be. I've seen...seen it with my own eyes. I love you." It was getting harder to breathe but he had a few more things he needed to say, just not to Tracy. "Oh, no. B.A.?" he asked "B.A." "I'm right here" Barry said as he took him in his arms again. "Will you tell Cisco.." H.R. said "please tell him.." Then he lowered his voice so only Barry could hear him. "Tell...tell Cisco this took strength and he gave it to me" then in a normal tone of voice he asked "will you tell him that for me?" "yeah" Barry answered. "Good" H.R. said "now go stop Savitar." He gave Barry a wink then he slowly closed his eyes and gave into the void that was waiting for him.
