This is what I imagine occurred when Curley's wife died.
One last scream
Then,
For a moment,
All is silent
The crickets cease
Their eternal chirping
The birds pause
All animals freeze
The bees
Stop buzzing
In respect
For the life that ended
A reflection
Of the return to simplistics
As quickly as it started
It's over
Like a movie
Where one pauses
For a moment
Life resumes
Soon forgetting
The one who vanished
