Powers of silence
A/N
Another story with an origin I'd rather not talk about. People who know me should understand...soon.
"Shikamaru?" Temari walked up to the hill where they always met.
"Hey, Temari, up here." He called out. His voice sounded tired.
She sat next to him lying down and watching the clouds. He seemed so at peace here. Though he could seem at peace anywhere provided he could sleep.
Temari rolled her eyes at the thought. "So what is it you want to do this time?"
Shikamaru closed his eyes. "I'm already doing it."
Temari sighed. "Oh really? And what exactly is it you're doing?"
"Nothing," he replied. "You should do it too."
"Now why would I want to do that?" she asked. "I can think of a whole lot more things that need to be done right now, and 'nothing' isn't one of them."
"All the more reason you need this." Shikamaru said. "The powers of silence are greater than you think, woman." Temari twitched slightly at this but she kept silent. "Cut back on all that work, on all that noise, and just listen to the things you normally don't hear."
"And what is it I don't hear, Mr. Philosophical?"
"Silence." He opened his eyes once again to look at her.
With another sigh, she lied down next to him. He closed his eyes and she did the same.
They laid there in silence for a long time, and in that time, Temari's body lost its tension, her breathing began to slow, a smile crept up to her face. This was nice.
"Okay, Shika," She began. "You –"
A loud long snore interrupts her and all that tension she lost found her.
She moved closer to him and kicked him in the shin.
"Ow, hey what was..." Shikamaru grumbled.
"Lazy ass," she said before once again returning to her silence.
"Troublesome girl," he replied before returning to his silence.
They both smiled unknowingly to the other. Yes, silence was good.
End.
