Lara Croft awoke to the annoyingly repetitive sound of her telephone. She rolled over onto her side and glanced at the ornate clock on her wall; it was eight o'clock in the morning. "Who could possibly be trying to phone me at this time?" she wondered aloud, before rolling onto her front and covering her head with her pillow. She could still hear the annoying ring of her telephone and her grip tightened on her dual pistols, which were lying on her bedside cabinet beside her. Just as she was about to pull the triggers of her beloved pistols, the ringing stopped. A male voice left a message, and it was a voice Lara knew of only too well. She threw back the satin covers and leapt out of her bed, stumbling in her urgent rush to get to the telephone. She picked up the receiver and quickly dialled the number of the previous caller, who was none other than the famous archaeologist and Egyptologist, Jean Yves.
"Jean?" Lara called.
"Lara! Good morning to you! I take it you were about to blast your telephone to pieces?" Jean joked.
"Yes, as a matter of fact I was. You know me too well!" Lara replied, laughing.
"Well, I'm sorry for that, your Majesty, but the truth is it couldn't wait any longer."
"Oh?"
"Got you interested now, haven't I?" Jean joked again.
"Maybe, if you stop with the jokes."
"Okay then. I'll skip to the good part just for you. You know I'm an Egyptologist, right? Well, I was in Egypt about a week ago and made an amazing discovery: the tomb of Tutankhamen."
Lara's smile faded. She thought Jean knew what he was talking about.
"Jean, King Tut's tomb was found ages ago, in 1992 by Howard Carter! If this was the only reason you woke me at this ungodly hour, the next time I meet you, you will be…" she stopped short as Jean interrupted her.
"No, silly! I found something inside the tomb. But I need your help getting to it."
"What is it?" Lara asked eagerly, now interested again.
"Well, I'm not sure exactly," Jean mumbled, sounding embarrassed.
"I think it's an amulet. But I need you to confirm what it is and help me get to it."
"That's a done deal! But I need the co-ordinates if I'm to get there." Lara replied.
"Okay, I'll send them over. Hang on a second." Lara heard the sound of fingers tapping on a keyboard, followed by a click.
"Meet me over in Cairo tomorrow morning at eleven o'clock," Jean said.
"Perfect. Should I bring my pistols, or will I need extra firepower?" Lara asked, eyeing her pistols once again.
"I would bring something more heavy-duty, if you know what I mean," Jean said after a few seconds.
"Okay, and I'll bring something for you too," Lara replied, making a mental checklist of the things she would need.
"Bye, then. See you tomorrow!" With that, Lara hung up, excited about the days of adventure, excitement and suspense to come.
