I never knew much about my mother or father. I grew up with my cousin Tia Dalma: a sweet lady intent in teaching me witchcraft and raising me to be a lady - despite her reputation. She taught me much, and not once did she corrupt my destiny by telling me of my powers until I asked about it. Tia taught me to read, write - to be a lady. I'd lived fourteen years with Tia, but when everything failed me, the world wore me down…it broke me, my soul and so my purpose.

All I know about my mother and father is that they loved each other very much. Named Marissa and Raphael; my mother was a siren, a beautiful siren with a deadly fate. Her hair was auburn and wild, and she had the most dazzling green eyes that could captivate you in a matter of seconds. My father was a sailor, a good respectable man, with a good fortune and a soft heart.

It was on a calm, autumn day when he first met my mother. He and his crew were sailing past a small gathering of rocks when the most sweet and seducing melody taunted the sailors towards the eroded black and velvet-like rocks. Upon seeing my father, my mother stopped her enchanting melody and his eyes found hers - in that moment she knew she had found her new destiny. In desperation she begged her sisters to stop singing, and so later that night she found the ship once more, to climb aboard and find my father at the wheel. It was not magic, nor witchcraft that lured my father to my beloved mother - it was the sparkle in her eye, the smile upon her face and the splendour of her soul.

With the epic love in their hearts, and months of romance did they conceive me. Of course, my mother was a siren, and my father a mortal. It was forbidden and punishable by death - if anyone were ever to find out they would surely face the Gods of the sea. So in utter despair they found out Tia, and gave me to her, begging to keep me safe and to teach me well.

After fourteen years with Tia Dalma, I wanted to find my parents. I said my farewells to Tia and came to the island of Tortuga, a drunken island of desires and alcohol.

One night, there was a dreadful bar fight, and my parents were shot. I saw them fall to the floor. I hadn't even said "hello" to them yet - let alone "goodbye". I broke down in sobs, and I pressed my hands against both of their hearts. This was the closest I could get to touching their souls.

The grief broke me, and the what seemed like the weight of the world crushed me. I'd fallen into darkness. Satisfying my suppressed desires with a bottle of rum in hand, a gun and a sword, I'd fought my way through half of Tortuga. And it wasn't until months later that I saw the tiniest speck of hope.

Tia Dalma was the legendary Calypso.

With that news I travelled to her as fast as I could, seeking her guidance. It was then that she told me my true destiny, who I was and what I could do.

I was Prudence Morissey - daughter of Marissa and Raphael Morissey; I had the power to give life and rather grimly, to take it.

Tia taught me how to harness my powers, channelling them with my emotions, embracing them and expanding them to the best of my abilities.

With fighting under my belt, the courage and fortitude through the toughest of times, magic at my side and the wisdom of the women before me, I sailed to Port Royal, in quest to find my future.
