Another Dark Parables oneshot. I'm a roll with these.

A Vial full of Memories

Portals were fairly easy to open. You needed certain items to open then but you had to be quick. Portals were known to close as soon as they were used. All except the one in the Snow White's castle.

Heaven knows The Detective knew plently about portals.

It hadn't surprised them in the least when the only way to reach the Forbidden Grove was through a portal. A mirror one to be exacted. Pinocchio told The Detective what was needed. The Detective set out to collect the items.

Clean rag to wipe the grim from the mirror. Check.

Crimson tree sap. Check.

Vial containing the tears of the Golden Child.

The Detective had found the vial after a mind-bending puzzle. It had taken them three tries to figure out the solution but they got there in the end. After collecting a Goddess figure and another Parable note, The Detective's hand curled round the vial. They stared at the item in their hand. Memories came flooding back.

Memories of a wide-eyed innocent girl with blond hair and a heart of gold. She tried everything to save her friend and in turn managed to save the life of the Snow Prince.

The Detective began to wonder. How long had it been since they saw her? Pinocchio stared at The Detective. "What's wrong?"

The Detective shook their head. "Nothing. I was reminded of a friend." The Detective held out the vial. "How did Godmother come across this?" The wooden puppet stared at the vial.

"Godmother must have gone to see the Golden Child." The reply somewhat startled The Detective.

"They were here? At this house?" The puppet shook his head.

"Not at the house. In the village. The Golden Child came with a boy. She helped a lot of the sick."

The Detective's eyes wondered back to the vial. It sounded like Kai and Gerda. But how long had it been? Surely Gerda would have gotten married. Would she have had children who inherited her gift? The Detective shook their head before opening the portal. There would be time later to work that out.

When the Detective ventured into the sewing room, their attention fell on a red cloak. They smiled at the sight. It seemed that there was always reminders of past investigations. There was the Cinderella Anges who married the Frog Prince, a vial of tears of the Golden Child and the Red Riding Hood cloak. The Detective mentally prepared for the battle to come.

After defeating the Puppet Master and saving Katherine, The Detective took a horse and trap. They began to make their way home. The journey would long and The Detective needed the rest. They came to a stop at a fork in the road to let another horse and trap pass. The driver, a young male, nodded his thanks. The Detective silently watched him ride past.

In the trap sat a woman. She was mending some clothing. Feeling eyes on her, the woman looked up. There was no mistaking the same wide-eyed innocents. The Detective was staring at an adult Gerda and Kai. Gerda waved to the Detective. They returned the wave. The horse and trap disappeared from view leaving the Detective feeling happy.

With a click of the reins, The Detective continued on home.
