The Stranded
Now listen to me, child. There is a place in Skyloft where the Stranded can watch the sky.
They always go alone. Sometimes you will see one, perched on the Statue of the Goddess like a pale white vulture in the gray of the early morning. They go there to travel, young one, the way you will one day travel on your Loftwing, and they watch. They only watch.
The Stranded make their home in the eastern forest. They do not visit the village except to watch from the tower. If you meet one, you must not look him in the eye. The Stranded are without souls, and they are always searching. You must not allow a Stranded to know your soul, child, or he will never stop until it has become his.
The Stranded will not speak to you. Can they speak at all? Who knows, my child? Some say they speak to the gods. That is why they perch so high. But they will not speak to you. Of that, you may be sure.
You wonder what the Stranded are watching for, on their vulture's perch above the town. I cannot tell you, and you must hope you never know their fate. But here is why I am telling you this, child:
Soon, you will come of age, and a Loftwing will come to you. You will form a bond stronger than you can imagine. He will be a part of you, my child. It will happen soon, and then you will take to the skies, as we in Skyloft were always intended to do.
You must know about the Stranded, child, so that you can beware. You will fly to the horizon and reach islands none have ever seen. You will learn the secrets of the skies, and you will soar where your predecessors have never dared to go. But listen now, child. You must never fly your Loftwing before a Stranded.
Do you understand? They watch in the gray early morning, and that is when you must never fly. If a Stranded sees your Loftwing, hope is lost to you, my child, and that is what you must remember, above all else.
Because above all else—even above a soul—a Loftwing is what the Stranded desire.
