It had been a number of months since they broke up. She thought they were going to last forever. But then he told her that he thought it wasn't working out. Try other things, he said. She shook her head. The other things meant he had found someone better. Someone who was more than able to be his than she was. Someone who just wasn't her. It was disappointing, to say the least. Full blown heartbreak could have described the situation a lot better, but she wasn't that melodramatic.

It was on this fateful, cloudy day that she ran into him again. Literally. She'd been walking along, minding her own business on the sidewalk of a busy street, lost in thought, when suddenly she was bumped sideways. She flailed her arm out and balanced herself without completely embarrassing herself. A hand reached out and steadied her even more and as she looked up to thank the person she froze.

"Sasuke."

She saw him stiffen and he lifted his head to look into her eyes.

"Sakura."

She gently extricated her arm from his hand and stepped back.

"How are you?" She asked carefully, not wanting to fall into a cold ocean like before. He nodded curtly.

"I'm fine. You?"

She lifted her hand and waved it.

"Pretty good."

There was an awkward silence between them. They both opened their mouths at the same time and she closed hers first, wordlessly waving him on. He cleared his throat.

"Have you found someone else?"

She jerked at the question and looked into his eyes. Nodding nervously she linked her hands together.

"Yeah, I have. His name is Deidara and he's really nice. What about you?"

He nodded again.

"Yes."

Obviously it was all she was going to get out of him. She smiled weakly and turned to leave but he beat her to it.

"I'll see you around, Sakura."

She turned back and watched him leave. Just as he was about to turn a corner near the end of the busy street, she lifted her hand out to him.

"Sasuke! Wait!"

He stopped and turned his head. She ran after him and stood in front of him, panting slightly.

"I lied. There is no one. Deidara's just a friend of a friend."

He turned fully to regard her. She repeated herself softly.

"There is no one."

He didn't say anything for a few moments, and she was about to give up and walk away when suddenly he walked forward and wrapped his arms around her. He pulled her close and murmured into her hair.

"I lied too. This time, I'm never going to let you go."

A/N: For some strange reason, I thought of this while watching trucks and cars slowly inch their way along a highway because of roadworks. Go figure. But think about that song by Matchbox Twenty, Can't Let You Go. You're part of my soul. You're all that I know. I can't let you go... So nice. and fitting for the last scene I think. Anywhoo... Enjoy...
