One – The Disappearance

The sharp ringing of the house phone sliced through the silence of the one bedroom apartment, echoing blaringly through the otherwise silent halls.

A tan figure yawned, swiping at his eyes as he rolled over, reaching for the obscenely loud object.

"Whaddisit?" was the sleep heavy greeting he offered, not particularly pleased to be woken at three am.

"Aomine, it's me."

"Gah," groaned the navy haired man, "what do you want, Bakagami?"

"Kuroko's missing."

"What?" though exhaustion still lingered on his tone, a sliver of surprise seeped through.

"Kuroko Tetsuya was reported missing at noon. The casuals searched for a while but it seems no one's spoken to or seen him since last Thursday."

"Eh? Tetsu? You sure people just don't realise he's there?" drawled the tanned man, wearily rubbing the numbness out of his face as he threw back the covers, hauling himself upright.

"This is serious, Aomine. Would I call you at a time like this if it wasn't?"

"You have before," grunted the dishevelled officer, "remember when you got drunk at Easter? And then at your birthday… and mine. And now that I think about it, Kuroko's too. Riko and Hyuuga's engagement – oh, and you can't forget-"

"Alright, alright, I get it. But this is serious, Aomine… Kuroko's not one to pull our legs like this. It's serious as hell and if we want to find him we've got to get moving."

"Right. Have you called the others?" Aomine questioned curtly.

"Hyuuga, Imayoshi and Kiyoshi are here with me. I'll call Sakurai after you. Kiyoshi's taking care of Murasakibara and Mitobe."

"Okay. I'm on my way."

Aomine hung up, hurriedly throwing on his officer's uniform before grasping his keys and making for the door. He paused as he passed through the foyer, eyes drawn to his Touou graduation photo.

He stood in his graduation robes alongside a pink haired girl, smirking down at her as she beamed at the camera, arms around a casually dressed light blue haired figure. Behind them, with one arm slung around the teenage Aomine's shoulders and a basketball tucked under the other, was Kagami, red hair glistening in the sun as he flashed a grin.

Kuroko's pale form stared unblinkingly at him in his hesitance.

"I'll find you, Tetsu," the officer muttered, "I promise you."

He received a text as he was slipping into his car.
