This is another little one I've had floating around in my head for a couple days. I'm having major writers block with my other story so hopefully getting this one out will help alleviate my writers block. I got the idea from the scene at the diner during Sam and Andy's trip to Sudbury.

….

Sam was just as uncomfortable as Andy with the way things were between them, but he was doing his best to act like it wasn't bothering him. There was one thing that he really missed though, her smile.

The first time he really noticed it was the night after their first shift together when they were talking in the parking lot. She had asked him about Emily and what he gave up in order to help her. She had offered a handshake and he accepted. He offered her a ride home and he suddenly found her very close to him with an absolutely breathtaking smile on her face. He always thought that was what he couldn't resist and tried to kiss her that night.

She could light up a room and regardless of his mood, seeing her smile always made him happy. He particularly enjoyed the times when he was the cause of the smile on her face. He would never admit it to anyone, but she could probably get him to do pretty much anything just by flashing him that smile.

They had stopped for lunch at the diner on their way up to Sudbury. Andy was desperately trying to get rid of the awkward silences between them since the night of the blackout. Sam wasn't exactly being the most cooperative participant, but he felt bad when he saw how frustrated she was really getting with everything. He figured he would try to lighten things up a bit.

"Miss," he called for the waitress.

She turned and walked over to their table.

"Problem here officer?" the waitress asked.

"There's a problem with my BLT," Sam replied.

"Really?"

"Yeah, I think you better call a hambulance."

Andy cracked a smile at his joke, but the waitress was less than amused. It probably wasn't the first time she had heard that joke.

"Can I get you anything else?" she asked.

"Well my partner here was wondering if you have any hen ways on the menu."

"What's a hen way?"

"About 3 pounds."

Andy couldn't help herself and laughed out loud. She felt bad for the waitress, but it was funny. The waitress just turned and walked away from them.

Sam looked back at Andy and she was still chuckling.

"You're such an idiot," she said to him still laughing.

"Still feeling awkward?" Sam asked her in a serious tone.

Andy paused for a moment, "no."

She still had that smile on her face and Sam couldn't help but smile himself. This time he was the one who put that smile on her face. He liked that feeling, even if it was because of some corny joke he read in a joke book when he was 9.
