"2."
Naruto blinked. He could swear he had heard Sakura's voice speaking from within the room off to the left. There was a pause. Then, a thoughtful voice spoke. "Hm, 4."
Blue eyes widened, and then he smiled. Kakashi was in the room with her. He heard a feminine snicker. "I don't think so. 6?"
The blond shinobi motioned to the dark-haired boy standing a few feet away. "Teme! Sakura-chan and Kakashi-sensei are playing a game! I think its Sudoku."
Sasuke inclined his head, hair falling over his face as he nonchalantly listened at the door – heaven help us if an Uchiha looked too interested.
From inside came Kakashi's voice. "Hm…9?"
Naruto nodded affirmatively. "It is Sudoku!"
The pink-haired girl laughed once. "In your dreams. 93."
Sasuke smirked. "What kind of Sudoku goes up to 93, dobe?"
Naruto glared. "Shut up teme!" He whisper-shouted. The last thing he wanted was for his teammates to discover that he had been listening to their conversation.
Sasuke simply smirked again, and then ignored the fuming boy beside him, preferring to spy – ahem, listen to background noise – that his team was generating.
Kakashi spoke, slower and lower than before. "What about 143?"
Sakura's reply was slower than before as well, and seemed a bit quiet. "I don't think so, Kakashi – too risky."
Sasuke's eyes narrowed a fraction. What in the world? Could they be deciding tactics for the upcoming mission? But why wouldn't they have included the rest of the team? And since when had Sakura been calling Kakashi-sensei just Kakashi?
Naruto pounded his hands together. "I got it, teme! They're deciding on a mission!"
Sasuke rolled his eyes. "Dobe. Why wouldn't they include us in such a decision?"
"Teme!" Was Naruto's oh-so-eloquent reply.
Sakura's voice spoke again. "Well…" The y both stiffened and listened intently. Sakura had a playful hint to her voice as she continued. "What about 295? You always like that."
Naruto blinked. "Are they ordering off a menu, for takeout?" Blue eyes filled spontaneously with tears. "Why wouldn't they invite me! Sakura-chan!"
The Uchiha had to grab the back of Naruto's garish orange jumpsuit to prevent him from leaping into the room. Sasuke sighed. "Dobe. Think before you act - however difficult it may be."
Naruto bristled. "You calling me stupid, teme!"
Another smirk from the Uchiha.
Kakashi's voice floated to them again from the door. "What about 295, and half of 130?"
Naruto laughed. "Kakashi-sensei is a pig! He's gunna get fat!"
Sakura's incredulous snort came to them. "How can you do half of that?"
Naruto's face fell – they way she said 'do' didn't seem to involve eating. Sasuke frowned – he couldn't help it, he was curious now.
The irrepressible blond lifted and smiled. "Maybe they're talking about training! Yeah, that must be it!"
Sasuke looked over at Naruto. "What kind of training involves numbers, dobe?"
"Teme!" Naruto hissed out. He was barely containing himself from smacking the annoying bastard in the back of the head.
A soft sigh floated through the door – both stiffened and listened. "How about the one on 187?" The masked man was very quiet now when he talked.
Naruto twitched – it was hard for him to sit still. He wanted to know what they were talking about. Momentarily, he wished he had Byakugan to see through the walls.
The two inside fell silent. Finally, Naruto could take it no longer. He burst through the doors, curious Uchiha right behind him.
What he saw inside made Naruto jerk to a stop. Sakura and Kakashi were together, on the bed, joined at the lips. They both turned to the interruption – Kakashi used Sakura to hide his unmasked face.
An Icha Icha book lay open beside them, pages waving in the light breeze.
