The cold shocked him, kicking his brain into gear. A bubble of oxygen burst out, temporarily blinding him. For a few seconds he was totally disorientated. His arms thrust out only to hit the hard underside of the boat. He scrabbled at it, searching for the surface. The water stung in his eyes and his chest felt taut. Suddenly hands seized his shoulders and he kicked up, breaking the surface with a huge intake of air, his hair falling in his face. The hands helping him were shaking – with laughter.
"First rule of boating," Bodie chuckled, "don't fall in!"
