A/N: This is a brief story about the Black Cousins as children on a winter's day.
A normal winter day in December found Andromeda, Narcissa, Bellatrix, Sirius, and Regulus Black having a snowball fight. There wasn't anything special about this. Kids were prone to have snowball fights. But these are the Black children. The most dysfuntional family since...ever. On any other day, these kids were at each other's throats.
Don't ask me why. Don't ask me how. Maybe it was something in the air. Maybe they were all suffering from temporary insanity. But for whatever reason, these five children were laughing and playing together.
"Sirius, I will kill you!" Bellatrix screamed at her cousin, who had just nailed her in the face with a slush ball.
"First you gotta catch me, Bella!" Sirius shouted as he ran around the corner of his home. Bellatrix was hot on his heels, and as she turned the corner she found herself pelted mercilessly with snow by her sister Andromeda, and her cousin Regulus.
She was shouting threats I won't put in print at both of them, when she finally got some aid in the form of her sister Narcissa, who was sporting several snowballs. But just as Andromeda and Regulus were on the retreat, Narcissa turned on her unsuspecting sister, sending snowball after snowball her way. Bellatrix narrowly escaped by climbing up a tree, shielding her from anymore snowballs.
Narcissa, ecstatic over her victory, failed to notice Sirius, Andromeda, and Regulus, all sporting no less than three tightly packed balls of ice each.
Once they three had...finished Narcissa off, they failed to notice that, in their brutal attack on her, that they had come underneath Bellatrix's tree. Seeing her opportunity, she shook the branches hard, and a whole lot of the powdery stuff came down on the unsuspecting foursome. They screamed threats and swears of vengeance as she hopped down from her refuge and took off.
Half an hour later, the four cousins, covered in snow, were angrily searching for Bellatrix. But it seemed that their prey was no where to be found. As it turned out, she was on the roof, waiting to strike again. She looked upon Andromeda and Regulus as they looked through some trees. She backed away from the edge and headed for the ladder when she heard a voice behind her.
"Going somewhere, sis?" It was Narcissa. She backed away form her irate sister, only to bump into someone else. She whirled around to face Sirius, who was wearing a smug grin.
"It's the end of the line, Bella," Sirius said with great relish. In a flash, Andromeda and Regulus were up the ladder, and Bellatrix was surrounded. Just as she was giving up hope, she got an idea. She picked up some snow, and in a spinning motion, got in it the faces of her sisters and cousins. Taking advantage of the distraction, she was off the roof in a matter of seconds.
After a few more minutes of cat and mouse games, the children were facing each other. With a look of finality, Bellatrix was taken down by Narcissa, Sirius, and Regulus. But now, they were out of ammo. And Andromeda was ready to capitalize. I won't go into details, but we can safely say that, during better times than these, Andromeda had dominated her family, and, to quote Walter Kronkite, that's the way it was.
