Kala was sleeping lazily under the beaming sun in her nest. Over her on a branch lay her human son Tarzan. He smiled evilly for the prank he was going to pull. He waited for her to wake up. As she did, she looked about for Tarzan and then he slowly climbed down from the branch and let out a flamingo squawk making her jump.
Tarzan rolled about laughing hysterically.
"I got you again, Mom!" He laughed.
"Here's what happens to those who scare me."
And she grabbed him and tickled him all over and then he found a chance to tickle her and soon he began to take over.
Soon they were out of breath with the tickling match. Kala lay down with Tarzan sitting on her round warm tummy.
"I'm bored, Mom," Tarzan complained.
"Why don't you cool off by the pond?" His mother suggested.
"Come with me," said Tarzan. "We could splash around."
"Gorillas can't swim," said Kala. "I'll be fine."
Tarzan went to the pond and cooled himself off. Terk was helping her mother make a new nest and Tantor was marching with his herd. It did feel little lonely. What he'd give to make a wish that his mother could swim. He imagined all the fun he could have with her if she could swim: Splash attacks, paddling with her, sliding from the waterfall with her and many more.
Suddenly, he saw two yellow eyes in the distance from some bushes. A leopard jumped out after him. He screamed for help but no one was around. He finally came to a wall and there was no other way to escape.
The leopard lunged at him but then his mother grabbed the leopard with all her strength. Tarzan watched as she fought the leopard with bravery, picked it up and threw it a long distance away.
Tarzan ran into his mother's huge arms and hugged her tight.
"I was so scared, Mom."
"Me too," said Kala. "I'm just thankful you're safe. Let's go home."
Back at the nest, Tarzan said, "I thought all animals were our friends."
"Not all," said Kala."Some are murderous and eat us."
"Why is there evil in this world?"
"Life has its ups and downs," explained Kala. "But sometimes you must live with it. We can't always have our banana and eat it too."
"But at least I have banana to eat," said Tarzan. "You're my mom. You saved me."
"I'd give anything to save you," said Kala hugging her child in her warm arms.
"I'd give anything too," said Tarzan. But then he started to tickle her. "Except for that."
And they tickled each other stupid until they finally grew tired.
