"What's she doing?" Sirius Black whispered to Alice Pleasance as they stood in the portrait hole to the Head's common room.
"Meditating, I think" Alice whispered back. Currently Lily Evans, head girl and best friend to Alice, was sitting indian-style on the coffee table in the middle of the room.
"Why?" Sirius asked.
"No idea. She's never done this before."
"Think it's 'cause of James?"
Alice turned her head to look at Sirius. "What'd he do this time?"
"Asked her out" Sirius replied, looking nonchalant.
"Oh well he always does that." Alice replied, relieved.
"Yeah but this time she didn't say 'no', just told him she'd have to think about it."
"Wow" said Alice, a surprised look on her face. Normally Lily would just say no to James, generally in the most creative and demeaning ways.
At that moment the portrait swung open and James walked in. The sight of Lily meditating on the coffee table stopped him in his tracks.
"What's going on?" He asked Alice and Sirius.
"She's meditating." They replied.
"I see. Over what?"
"Probably over you asking her out" Alice replied, turning to face James.
"Shhhh…" Lily said, "I'm trying to think"
Alice and James turned toward Lily and began staring at her again. Five minutes later Lily cracked open her eye and looked at them.
"What? Haven't you ever seen anyone meditate before?" She inquired.
Alice, Sirius, and James shook their heads.
"Oh" Lily said climbing off the table and walking towards them , "Well James, I've made up my mind."
James just stared at her, waiting for an answer.
Lily walked out the portrait door, turned around and said "Meet you in the Great Hall Saturday morning around 9."
James stared after her. "Does that mean yes?"
Alice and Sirius laughed. "Yes it does."
