Well, this is (sort of) a Hong KongXPhillipines drabble, for Schwarze Prinzessin, who came in second for my "name that artist!" game on Canada's Life is Average. I'm sorry if Juan's out of character, I'm not used to writing OC's, I kind of fail without proper characterization. Enjoy, and sorry it's so late! (explanation is on MeowChan16's prize) Also, brownie points to those who got the reference I used in one of those paragraphs.
Break my heart, why don't you? I don't own APH. Hell, I don't even own Juan!
Supposedly, when two ships are near each other in calm water, the captains must be extremely careful. If they're not, the ships will slowly draw closer together.
The same can sometimes be said for people. Hong Kong had decided to test this hypothesis at another one of those meetings that he "absolutely had to attend, but really didn't have to do anything at". He had first spotted the other "spare nation" at such a meeting.
He seemed to have people wanting his attention, but they were all pulled away or distracted quickly. He was a lot like Hong Kong in that respect. Which might have been why he was chosen for the experiment.
Hong Kong was gratified to be proven right. Somehow, the loneliness that came from being surrounded by a lot of people acted like the calm water in the theory. That hadn't stopped him from being nervous when "first contact" was made.
"Hey."
"Huh? Oh, hey!" Hong Kong examined the male's face. He seemed cheerful, and Hong Kong experienced a kind of déjá vu. "So...you're with that China guy, yeah? He cooks pretty well, but he's gotta stop those fishermen from going...astray."
There was a slightly darker look, Hong Kong noted. "Ah, well, I suppose China's just a little used to unruly children. He tends not to notice anymore...Korea broke him of the idea of giving attention. Rather, he's learned to run for his life at the sight of Yong-Soo."
Philippines laughed, loudly. "Good one! Maybe not as cool execution as it could've been, but we'll work on that! My name's Juan. Hey, hey, we're both part of Asia, maybe we're related!"
Hong Kong sincerely hoped that wasn't true. "I kind of doubt that. You never know though. Want to break into China's study and check?"
Juan wrapped and arm around his shoulders, and Hong Kong made a mental not of everything except his (hopefully) unnoticeable red tinge. "I like the way you think."
