AN: So this is just a little something that popped into my head while I was playing around on a free translation site. Hope You like it.
Warnings: Minor one-side slash and OOC. I don't know how reliable the translation site is so please excuse the Italian if it's wrong.

"Amare come il fuoco."
"Was that English?"
"No, Italian."
"Since when do you speak Italian?"
"I don't know, I just do."
Flack sighed leaning back in his booth in the bar him and Danny frequented.
"I ask a simple question like 'what is love' and you answer in Italian."
"What is love' is not a simple question." Danny retaliated before taking a swig of his beer.
They weren't drunk but there was enough alcohol in there systems to release the tension of work and allow them to talk about things that weren't usually discussed.
"I expected something like, 'It's just there,' or 'Love is love.' Not something I can't understand."
You'd understand better if you were in my shoes. Danny had Lindsey, yes this was true but lately he'd had strange feelings, feelings stronger then friendship for the homicide detective seated across from him.
"Danny, you with me buddy?" Flack was waving a hand in front of Danny's face trying to get his attention.
"Sorry, lost in thought. What'd you say?"
"I asked what it meant." He chuckled, pretending to take Danny's beer. "That's it I'm cutting' you off." Danny just grabbed his bottle laughing it off.
The two sat in silence for a while, just listening to the conversations around them, there job taught them to be alert and that wasn't something they left behind when they clocked out.
"To love like the fire." Danny said randomly, confusing flack.
"What? I swear Danno you can get so random when you drink."
Danny's stomach dropped at the nickname, only Flack call him Danno, no one else could pull it off. It had to be his accent, his deep voice.
"Amare come il fuoco, To love like the fire."
"How is that an answer to 'What is love?'"
"A fire can burn slowly and seem to last forever, like a candle, it joins the wax together by softening it and melding it into one again. Or it can destroy everything in its path, beautiful but destructive."
And that's exactly how Danny saw it; his love with Lindsey was a candle, building on top of it's self, making it stronger. While what he felt for Flack was destructive. Had it been given the proper chance it would have been beautiful but may have destroyed the friendship he worked so hard to make. And Danny knew he wasn't going to chance that. Things happened for a reason, and he knew somewhere along the way his decision to let the flame for flack burn out would pay off.
