Loki remembers laying in bed as a small child, whimpering and crying because of the nightmare he had been having only moments ago. He would wake up screaming and clutching desperately at the blankets. Then his mother would usually come in and lull him back to sleep with a simple lullaby. She thought it was simple but Loki thought it was the prettiest song in the whole world. It was about a meadow full of flowers that was shaded by one lone oak tree. This tree would sway when the warm summer breezes swirled through the field. But now, Loki has just awaken from a truly horrifying dream and there is no one to comfort him. Mother and Father aren't in Asgard at the time and so Loki is alone. But not quite. Suddenly, Loki's door is pushed open and he sees light from the hall spill in.

"Brother? Are you alright?"

"I'm fine Thor. It was just a dream, that's all."

"But I heard you screaming."

"Oh."

Thor comes to Loki's bedside and sits down on the edge of the bed.

"Do you want me to sing mother's lullaby to you?"

"I'm not a child anymore," he snapa irritably.

Too late. Thor has already begun. Loki scrunches up his face, trying not to cry. But the tears come when he thinks only for a moment about the dream. He buries his face in his pillow and suddenly feels a hand stroking his hair. Thor hasn't stopped singing and is now running his hand gently through Loki's hair. When he gets to the part about the warm summer breeze, Loki looks up at his older brother miserably. Thor smiles at him and begins rubbing comforting circles on his brother's back.

"It was just a dream Loki," he says softly. "It wasn't real."

Loki's breathing slows down a bit as he stops crying and sighs deeply at Thor's touch.

"Shhhhh," murmurs Thor.

He moves his hand soothingly up and down Loki's back, comforting him and telling him that everything will be okay. He whispers quietly that he will always be there for him. Finally, Loki falls asleep with a contented smile on his face. Thor leans over, wipes a tear from his little brother's cheek, and draws the covers up tightly around him.

"Goodnight brother," he whispers before quietly leaving the room.

Note: I do NOT ship Loki and Thor. They are clearly brothers and they love each other in that way.

Note: I imagine Loki and Thor to be about 14 and 16. Not adults and not children.
