Girl in the War by Josh Ritter

Ginny was racing towards the Great Hall. The final battle had started, and she was determined to fight no matter what. Her whole family was there, and she was not going to leave them in the final hours. Students were being rushed out of the castle. There were no laws, no courteous, it was a war. She saw younger ones fighting off death eaters. How did this happen, she wondered.

Peter said to Paul
"All those words that we wrote
Are just the rules of the game and the rules are the first to go"
But now talkin' to God is Laurel beggin' Hardy for a gun
I gotta girl in the war, man I wonder what it is we done

Ginny didn't know what to think anymore. All she saw was senseless hurt. She knew she had to help, she needed to find Harry, or her family, or somebody! She couldn't stand this on her own. She felt helpless. She saw familiar faces, and rushed to aid. Her vision became blurred with unshed tears. Ginny pleaded for this war to end soon; there were already so many tolls and casualties. This was it, it was the end.

Paul said to Petey
"You gotta rock yourself a little harder;
Pretend the dove from above is a dragon and your feet are on fire"
And I got a girl in the war, Paul the only thing I know to do
Is turn up the music and pray that she makes it through

Harry saw Ginny fighting alongside Luna and Neville. She wasn't supposed to be here, she should be safe at home with Tonks and Teddy. Innocent people were being killed left and right. Harry couldn't take it; he desperately needed to end this. He needed to figure out Voldemort's weaknesses, seek out what could bring him down. He needed the courage, and strength. He needed his family, but they were never there. He wouldn't let Voldemort take the last thing that mattered to him, the only person he lived for.

Because the keys to the kingdom got locked inside the kingdom
And the angels fly around in there, but we can't see them
And I gotta girl in the war, Paul I know that they can hear me yell
If they can't find a way to help, they can go to Hell
If they can't find a way to help her, they can go to Hell

Harry came to the daunting conclusion that he would have to seek out Voldemort himself, essentially ask for death. It was a necessity that he took action. No more blameless wizards would die of this war tonight. Harry began to make his way under the cloak to Voldemort's hideaway, but he had to make sure that she was alive. His eyes searched for hers. He saw Ginny dueling Bellatrix, and an immense hatred bubbled inside of him. That evil witch would never harm another being close to him.

Paul to Petey "you gotta rock yourself a little harder;
Pretend the dove from above is a dragon and your feet are on fire"
But I gotta girl in the war, Paul her eyes are like champagne

The war had ended; Voldemort was dead. Harry gazed at Ginny. Dawn was breaking, and the light hit her face perfectly. Her eyes were filled with tears; tears for Fred, for Harry, for everyone. It was too much for her. Harry took her in his arms, and they stood, embraced, as the sun rose.

They sparkle, bubble over, in the morning all you got is rain
Sparkle, bubble over, in the morning all you got is rain
They sparkle, bubble over, in the morning all you got is rain
