Rooftop Conversations

"Cowboy?" the doll's voice barely registered to the cowboy doll as he sat on the edge of the roof legs dangling off of the side and staring at the stars. "So this is where you've been hiding." She said laying next to him, ignoring the brief look of irritation that crossed the cowboy's face. "Good choice, I come up here sometimes too. Even evil witches need a place to think." She continued as she looked at the stars.

"Leave me alone Dolly." Woody finally spoke up, his eyes never looking away from the stars.

"I can't do that cowboy, you see evil witches don't like when people are upset about something that's not their doing, and you got a lot of people upset. Want to talk about it?" Dolly glanced over at the cowboy who was still watching the stars.

"I'm fine."

"Then you won't mind me keeping you company." Dolly said smirking to herself.

Woody sat up and hugged his knees. "Look Dolly, I know what you're trying to do, I appreciate it, Jess and Buzz have tried similar things too, but I…you don't understand"

"Explain it to me then Cowboy, because right now all I see is you sulking on the roof while our new friends, your Buzz and Jessie included, are worried sick and can't function without a Cowboy. I've talked to them you know. They figured I was the leader of Bonnie's room, and while the thought is sweet we didn't have a leader before, these last few days I've tried to help them, but I'm not a leader Cowboy. I'm the villain. You sent them here Cowboy, you're their leader, all I can be is an imposter to that position, but instead of taking care of them you're leaving them to much less qualified hands while you get the luxury of sulking up here because everyone is too worried about upsetting you more!" Dolly said angrily, standing up quickly.

Woody turned to look at the now standing doll behind him, "Dolly…"

"Look, I'm not going to pretend I understand everything you're feeling, but you have a lot of people who still need you. You have to be something special to inspire as much loyalty as I see in those toys that came with you. I saw a bit of it when you were here, when you left for Sunnyside to get them." Dolly turned away from him, most of her anger draining away in the tirade. "If you miss him so much, go back. I'm sure he'll be home in a few months and you can sneak to college. I just thought you must have slipped in with the other toys for a reason, and from what I've been hearing these last few days you need the others as much as they need you. You wouldn't be here if you didn't."

Dolly took a few deep breaths then sat back down, staring at the neighborhood, and not looking at the Cowboy doll who was now staring at her intently. "I'm sorry." He said quietly sitting beside her, "I miss Andy, Bonnie is great, that's why I sent them here, but I miss him. I'm afraid I'll forget him." Woody said quietly hugging his knees and continuing to talk.

Dolly sat there beside him silently letting the cowboy doll talk and not saying another word until he was finished.

"Thanks for listening Dolly. The others, they mean well, but they want to fix it, this can't be fixed." Woody said standing up and reaching a hand to help Dolly up and together the two toys made their way inside.

"So evil witch Dolly, you're not going to use anything I said in some nefarious scheme to take over the world are you?"

"If I am I'm sure you'll stop me cowboy."
