Chapter 1
(Sam's POV)
I ran. It was all I could do to just run. Danny, scythe in hand, leisurely stalked after me. His eyes were the very color of blood, making him look demonic. His toothy smile might as well have bared fangs to my view of him at the moment. He could catch up to me if he wanted to and he knew it. I couldn't understand why he would move so slowly though... It was like he was playing with me, toying around like a cat plays with a mouse before killing it.
I came to the edge of the huge Circus Gothica circus tent and nearly ran into the walls. I was forced to stop and slowly look behind me. As expected, there was Danny, still walking towards me. His scythe was what got me so nervous. If it was just him I would've been able to stay put and hold my ground. But...with that kind of weapon, undoubtedly real and not foam or rubber, my courage wavered to the point of crumbling altogether.
"Saaa'aaamm!" he called out to me in a singsong voice.
I heard him chuckle darkly and turned around just in time to meet Freakshow.
"I let you go with a warning not five minutes ago, girl," Freakshow spat. "This time I'll be sure to get the message through your head..." He cracked a smile and gestured for Danny to come over with a snap of his fingers. Naturally, Danny obeyed and was floating beside his master within a total of two seconds thanks to his ability to fly. "And I know just how to do that..."
My eyes were still wide with fear, but this time they were focused on Freakshow instead of Danny. I realized that right now, Danny was the least of my worries.
Freakshow turned toward him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"She's nice, hm?" the ringmaster hummed.
Danny cast the man a confused look at first, as if using his eyes to ask him what he was getting at. But suddenly he furrowed his brows and smiled ominously. I somehow felt like a hex was about to be put on me.
Freakshow returned the smile and looked at me. "I want you to teach the girl a lesson she won't soon forget."
I didn't realize it but my heart was trying to jump out of my chest. I didn't know the secret code of males but I knew something bad was going to happen to me.
Danny nodded his head.
A/N
So maybe it'll come in short chapters sometimes. This is the prologue so, yeah, it'll be short. Some chapters will be medium, some long, some really long, and some short. It'll probably be erratic updates HOWEVER, the shorter chapters will be posted more quickly while the longer chapters will take more time. It evens the scale with length and time. Plus, sometimes I get lazy or get to a great stopping point. Welp, anyway, please enjoy.
