There are many things in this universe associated with death. Disease, murder, martyr, drowning, devils, sleep, demons, weapons, hatred, pregnancy, revenge, fire, apples, rage, hearse, gods, funeral, black, angels, metal, stone, love, shovel, red, blade, phoenix, tombstone, eulogy, assassination, sacrifice, accident, heartbeat, fall, break, hospital, flat-line, morgue, hero, undertaker, stiff, rigor mortis, gun, progress, sword, tragedy, strangle, suffocate, armor, villain, crossfire, immortality, rebel, massacre, dreams, monsters, nightmares, virtues, poison, sin, trees, blood, disappointment, ambition, war, battle, grass, crusade, smothering, safety, spears, axes, curtains, regress, predator, prey, hope, hunt, failure, wisdom, end, apocalypse, beginning, falling, pain, fear, life.
Doctor.
My poor, poor Doctor. Trying so hard – so valiantly – to save lives. That dear old man who can't bear to hear a child cry. Lonely and tired. Praised by hundreds.
Condemned by millions more.
(Silence will fall when the question is asked.)
The Doctor. Doctor Who? The Oncoming Storm. Bringing death and destruction and chaos wherever he goes. Blamed for what he cannot control, but never getting credit where it's due.
Feared throughout the universe. (Have you not heard the legend of the Pandorica?)
However, I believe there is only one thing more fearsome than him. (But then again, I've never understood fear.)
(I find a lot of fears to be completely unfounded. The color red, for example. Many see it as the color of death and blood and flames. But I see Gallifrey and life and the Doctor Donna.)
Some people believe this thing, this creature more fearsome than the Doctor, is the Bad Wolf.
(The Big Bad Wolf who will huff, and puff, and wipe your existence out.)
But it's not.
Because the Bad Wolf wouldn't exist without me, now would it?
(The fear of the color blue, on the other hand? That fear I can understand.)
No, my Bad Wolf is not the thing more feared than my Doctor.
(Seeing red in a fit of rage makes no sense to me. I see blue.)
That fearsome thing?
I am old.
I am new.
I am borrowed.
I am blue.
