Inside the mission truck, Sephiroth felt only one thing, bloodlust that wonderful feeling you get when find a worthy opponent. Even though he knew no one could defeat him he still hadn't lost that need for blood, it was all he could think about. A sudden bump in the road jolted him out of his thoughts. All the other SOLDIER members were talking about their families and what not. His friend Zack leaned over and asked Sephiroth about his family. Sephiroth thought about it, he never did know his parents, which was probably why he always felt bloodlust, because he had no family to take his mind off things. But he had gotten over that loneliness years ago, now he just enjoyed the chilling pleasure he got from decimating his enemies. He turned his head to look out through the opening in the truck. Feeling a little ignored, Zack sighed and decided to talk to Cloud instead. A chilling ominous feeling passed over Sephiroth, like something important was going to happen, he shrugged the feeling off and watched as the town of Nibelheim loomed closer on the horizon.

It was daybreak, the reddish glow of the sun cast an eerie shadow off of the buildings as Sephiroth, Zack and Cloud entered the deserted part of the city. They decided to split up to search for the various creatures tormenting the city. Since Cloud was only 16 and not yet powerful enough to take on any creatures, he went with Sephiroth. Remembering something Cloud had mentioned in the truck, he decided to start a conversation. "How does it feel? It's your first time back to your hometown in a long time, right? So how does it feel? I wouldn't know because I don't have a hometown…" a little shocked that his hero Sephiroth was actually talking to him could only mumble something as he looked down at his feet. Before he could answer properly, a creature ambushed them. Cloud rushed in but was only knocked back by the force of the creature's long tail. As Cloud landed he heard the high pitched roar of the serpent as Sephiroth cut off its head with one swing of his sword. Cloud stared in awe as the serpents head came crashing down splattering him with blood. Sephiroth sighed, he had been hoping for a worthier opponent. Glancing down at Cloud he said "Sorry about that, are you coming or not?" Cloud hurried to stand up but fell back down in the process. "I'm sorry" he muttered "I haven't fought in any real battles yet" he looked up but Sephiroth was already walking away. He caught up to Sephiroth, panting he asked "You asked about me, but what about you?" Sephiroth stopped abruptly causing Cloud to almost crash into him in his haste. "My mother is Jenova. She died right after she gave birth to me. My father… What does it matter…?" his eyes had glazed over as if he was remembering something he wished he could forget. Cloud patted himself off grimacing at the still fresh blood on his SOLDIER uniform. He ran to catch up to Sephiroth, his blond spiky hair bobbing up and down. A little farther down the street they caught up to Zack. Grinning broadly Zack asked Cloud "So how did it go?" Cloud grimaced "it was a disaster, but Sephiroth did well, like always."
