Arwen, the Evenstar contemplates mortality, love and death. 333 word drabble, not including the title.

The Doom of Men. The Gift of Men it was also called. The gift granted to mortals, Iluvatar's Second-Born. Death, and the freedom to pass beyond the Circles of the World. Such a concept was strange to Arwen, she didn't fully understand how such a thing could be considered a gift. After all, wasn't death a final end? She knew not what fate lay for the race of Men after they passed to the Halls of Mandos. What then? What became of Men then?

She thought of her beloved Aragorn, and that of his ultimate fate-which would be intricately linked with her own if she chose to live a mortal life and die a mortal death in order to be with him. Is death truly the end? Or is there something beyond that, some form of afterlife she had yet to comprehend?

Arwen Undomiel had not yet made her decision, but she knew it was only a matter of time. Deep down, she knew she loved the heir of Isildur with all her heart and soul, nothing would change this. Not her father, not the fact she would never see her family again in the Blessed Realm, not even the promise of death could stop her from what she truly felt. It was right in every way she could imagine, this love they shared for it was eternal.

She smiled as the last rays of the sun shone before the coming of dusk fell. This inner knowing gave her a sense of peace that would carry her through the choice and beyond it. Yes, the choice would be simple enough for her as she could not fathom living an endless life without true love being a part of it. To even think of such was unspeakably tragic!

Therefore, she vowed to herself that she would choose mortality over her elven heritage. At the first opportunity given, she would announce this to her love. And after that, all would be right within her heart.
