Prompt: Scars, Pairing: Mystrade
The man Greg Lestrade fell in love with had more sides than he could count, some more important than others. First and foremost, Mycroft Holmes was the most put-together, in control, perfectly presented kind of man Greg knew. Ironically, it was not this that had first drawn him to Mycroft, though he loved this part of him as much as any other, which was just as well as it was the side he saw most of on a day to day basis. But no, it had been the very opposite of that first side that Greg had fallen for, Mycroft's second side, usually so very well hidden from view. The side that showed how very vulnerable this work of perfection could be when blindsided - and there was only one thing that ever blindsided Mycroft Holmes. And that was Sherlock. Sherlock was Mycroft's baby brother, who was prone to doing something that would have his brother worrying about him.
Mycroft's third side was the one Greg both loved and hated, and it was this side that these marks he traced with his hands and mouth mapped out. The scars on his lover's skin that showed his bravery, his willingness to get his hands dirty and, if the locations of some of them were anything to go by, to risk losing more than just his shirt. And that, of course, was the bit he hated. He placed chaste, soft kisses on each battle scar and, unbeknown to his love, chanted his mental mantra: 'please let this be the last one, please let this be the last one'. Mycroft claimed of Sherlock 'I worry about him constantly'. Greg knew exactly what he meant. He worried about his Holmes brother constantly too. The scars told him he was right to.
