"Hey Nance, it's Frank Hardy."
"And Joe." Nancy Drew heard when she answered her cell phone.
"Hey guys, what's up?" Nancy asked.
"We need your help on a case." Frank said.
"What's the case?"
"Families in Edinburgh, Scotland are going missing. They all go missing while they're staying at a hotel called the Fairmont St Andrews. Do you think you could go with us to check it out?"
"Sure. When do we leave?" Nancy asked. She was always ready for a new mystery.
"Tomorrow morning. The flight is scheduled to leave at four a.m." Frank said. Nancy sighed. She was supposed to spend the day with Ned tomorrow.
"I'll be there." Nancy said reluctantly. She would have to call Ned and cancel one of their dates once again.
"Great. We'll talk about it more at the airport in the morning. We already have two rooms reserved. See you in the morning, Nance." Frank said.
"See you in the morning." Nancy said. She hung up the phone and laid back on her bed. She hated to disappoint Ned once again. She dialed Ned's cell number.
"Hello?" Ned answered.
"Hey, Ned. It's Nancy." she said.
"Hey, Nance. Why'd you call?"
"I'm going to have to cancel tomorrow."
"Aw, Nance, why?" Ned asked.
"The Hardy's need help with a case in Scotland. Our flight leaves at four in the morning."
"Nance, couldn't you say no to one of these cases just once?"
"This is what I do Ned, I solve mysteries. And when I get the chance to, I'm going to take it."
"I always end up being put second Nancy." Ned said.
"Well if you feel that way, maybe we should stop seeing each other." Nancy said. She wasn't really sure where it came from, but it felt like the right thing to say.
"Fine then." Ned said.
"Fine!" she yelled into the phone then hung up. She started packing her things for tomorrow. It was eight o'clock now. It would take her an hour to pack then she figured if she went right to bed she could get six hours of sleep because it would take her nah hour to get to the airport but everyone knew you should be there at least an hour before your flight. She packed enough clothes for two weeks. It was better to over pack than under pack, right?
Nancy met Frank and Joe at the airport at three. They checked their bags then sat down in the terminal to wait. Frank sat beside Nancy and Joe sat beside Frank.
"Are you okay, Nan? You seem a little out of it."
"It's three thirty in the morning, of course I seem out of it." Nancy snapped at Frank.
"Geez, sorry I asked." Frank said.
"No, I'm sorry. Ned and I broke up last night and I guess I'm mad about it."
"Woah, you guys broke up?" Joe asked, "Last month when we saw you, you guys were great."
"He asked if I could say no to a case just once and then told me he was always the one being put second!"
"That's exactly what Callie said to me when we broke up. You know, maybe there's something going on between those two, and that's why they broke up with us." Frank said. Nancy's cell rang and she took it out of her bag. It was Ned.
"Ned, what do you want?" Nancy asked as she stood up and walked away from the boys for some privacy.
"I'm sorry about what I said earlier, I still want to be with you, Nance."
"Ned you can't act like you did, then call me and just expect me to take you back."
"But Nance-" Ned said. Nancy heard her flight number called over the intercom.
"I gotta go Ned. We can talk about it when I get back." Nancy said. She hung up then ran over to the gate. She got in line behind the boys.
"Who was that?" Frank asked.
"It was Ned. He wants me to take him back."
"Oh." Frank said. He sounded disappointed.
"I told him we'd talk about it when we get back." Nancy said. They moved up in the line. A few minutes later they were on the plane and ready to take off. Nancy was sitting in between Frank and Joe. They buckled they're seat belts and they were off to Scotland.
