As I watched the two anime series, Inuyasha and Kyo Kara Maoh!, I noticed there are similarities. It's most likely between the two main protagonists of these shows, Kagome Higurashi and Yuri Shibuya, respectively.

For example, they are in a same plot of being an ordinary high school student who ended up being sent to an alternate dimension where themselves are the reincarnation of the previous ruler of that world. Early on, they have serious problems with their predecessors; Kagome has Kikyo and Yuri has his Maoh side. The point is, Kikyo also has romantic feelings with Inuyasha despite the fact that she and Kagome are one and the same person while the Maoh takes control whenever Yuri is in high danger so he just passes out afterwards, not remembering what happened. However, they ended up working together well for some time. They have their school uniforms as their main attire in going there. They also make use of their magic. Hey, at least they share the same country they lived on: Japan. Both of them have their families knowing about their adventures in the other world.

They also have their differences. For instance, the way they travel to their alternate worlds. Kagome has the Bone-Eater's Well while Yuri has the contact with water like a river or a fountain. The way they interact with their predecessors is quite different. It's eye to eye for Kagome and Kikyo while Yuri doesn't interact directly with the Maoh. Kagome has spiritual awareness while Yuri has unlimited magic. She uses a bow and arrow while he uses water manipulation. Kagome has non-royal blood, but Yuri has royal blood.

This concludes that even though they have differences, they're so alike in many ways. Even in their relationships with the characters in their respective series; Kagome's relationship with Inuyasha, Kikyo, Sango, Miroku, and Shippo matches Yuri's relationship with Wolfram, the Maoh, Conrad, Gunter, and Greta. Although they're not my favorites, I admit I like both of these shows. It takes a while for me to get to know them and find the similarities.
