The family of three rushed through the brick wall that separated the muggle side of King's Cross from Platform 9 ¾. They emerged onto a smoky platform with a bright red train running the length of it. People stared at them as they walked farther down the platform.
When they finally stopped, Astoria Malfoy kneeled down and enveloped her son in a bone-crushing hug. "Scorpius, I don't want you to feel any pressure this year. Your father and I don't care what house you get sorted into or who you befriend. All we want for you is to do your best," she whispered into her son's ear. Pulling back, she beamed down upon him and walked a little bit away so her husband could speak privately with their son.
"Scorpius, I know that you don't know that much about my time at Hogwarts, but I don't you want to make the same mistakes that I made," Draco started. "Don't judge any of your classmates based on their blood-status. Befriend as many of them as you can, because it is your friends that will always be there to fight with you and protect you and love you. Nothing is more valuable than the people you surround yourself with.
"I only wish that I could have learnt that lesson before leaving for Hogwarts, but I didn't have a father that truly cared for my wellbeing." Scorpius was expecting his father to start laughing or to play it off, but Draco had no such intention. He was being absolutely serious with his son; he didn't want his son to go through the same things that he had to endure throughout his time in school.
At that moment, Draco spotted a familiar group of people standing not far from them on the platform. Pointing at them, Draco said to his son "Do you see the young red-haired girl and the young black-haired boy?"
"Yes," Scorpius responded.
"They are the children of the three people that I was at odds with the entire time I was at Hogwarts. I don't have any doubt that they've been informed of who you are and who I am, so they might be wary of you. I want you to try as hard as you can to befriend them," Draco said with his hands on Scorpius's shoulders.
Scorpius looked up at his father with a questioning look on his face, but he had to rush to get on the train before he could ask his father why he wanted him to befriend the children of his enemies. He quickly found an empty compartment and waved out the window to his parents until they disappeared from his sight.
A few minutes later, the door to his compartment slid open and the two children that his father had told him about were standing in the hall. "D'you mind if we join you?" the boy asked. Scorpius just stared at them in disbelief; why would they want to sit with him.
"Look, we know who you are and who your father is, but we've decided that we don't care. You're your own person, right?" the girl stated bluntly. "I'm Rose Weasley and this is my cousin Albus Potter," she said, sticking her hand out to Scorpius.
"Scorpius. Scorpius Malfoy," he said while grasping her hand and shaking vigorously and then repeating with Albus. They spent the rest of the train ride laughing and eating the candy that they bought off the trolley. As they disembarked from the train, Scorpius was only thinking of how proud his father would be when he heard who his new best friends were.
I was reading a bunch of Scorpius/Draco feel good oneshots and this popped into my mind, so I typed it up quickly. Hope you enjoyed!
