Part One

"Andrew, hurry up." Debbie McAllister shouted to her thirteen year old son. "We have to leave now or we'll be late."

For the year eight students at Sun Hill High School, today was work experience day. They had to pick a parent to go to work with.

"Coming, mum." Andrew sighed, and walked down the stairs. "At least Jo and Em will be there too, so it won't be completely boring."

"You're not coming with me to play around." Debbie replied. "It is a real working police station and it's not a playground."

"Yes, mum." Andrew sighed. "I know, you've told me that thousands of times. I'll be good, I promise."

"Good boy, Andy." Debbie said, ruffling his hair. "Now we must go."

"So what are you working on at the moment?" Andrew asked, as the drove.

"Not much really." Debbie said, trying hard to hide her smile.

"Mum, you can tell me." Andrew whined. "I won't tell anyone."

"Sorry Andy." Debbie replied. "Anyway we really aren't doing much at the moment."

"Okay, okay." Andrew muttered. "I'll stop asking, only because you're my mum."

Meanwhile, Adam Okaro was also driving to the station with his thirteen year old daughter, Emma.

"You'd better behave yourself today, Emma." Adam said. "No getting into trouble; I know what you, Andrew and Joanna are capable off."

"Yes dad." Emma sighed. "We won't do anything stupid. I promise. So what are we going to do today?"

"Well, we thought we would show you how to work CAD." Adam started.

"Dad, that's so boring." Emma complained. "Can't we do something exciting?"

"Like?" Adam asked.

"Going on patrol." Emma asked hopefully.

"No way, not in a million years." Adam said sternly. "It's too dangerous."

"Oh, but dad." Emma whined.

"Don't oh, but dad me." Adam. "What I say is final, anyway I bet Debbie and Eva wouldn't let Andrew and Joanna on patrol either."

"I suppose so." Emma sighed. "I guess this beats going to school for the day. At least you do something interesting, not just sit in an office all day typing numbers."

Just a couple of streets away, Eva Sharpe and her thirteen year old daughter, Joanna were also driving to the station.

"Make sure you stay out of trouble." Eva told her daughter. "I know you, Emma and Andrew can cause all kinds of trouble."

"Okay, mum." Jo replied. "I promise I'll be good and I'll keep Andy and Em out of trouble too."

"Good girl, Joey." Eva replied.

"Mum, on one condition." Jo said sternly. "You do not ever call me Joey in front of Andy and Em. I hate that name."

"Okay, okay." Eva sighed. "I won't call you Joey. But it's such a cute name."

"Yeah; for a baby." Jo replied. "I'm thirteen years old mum, not three."

"Soon you'll be getting a boyfriend." Eva said.

"Yeah, in my dreams." Jo muttered. "No guy has looked at me since second grade."

"What was that, honey?" Eva asked.

"Nothing, mum." Jo smiled. "Nothing."
