Cry For A Hundred Years
by Rob Morris
JUST OUTSIDE THE HENCHMEN'S HIDEAWAY
Min and Max were not sure what to expect when Nightwing came their way.
"Back off hero!"
"Yeah, the fight's all done!"
Nightwing pointed.
"You guys-"
They readied themselves. The others kind of looked over as if to say, 'You're on your own'. But they needn't have worried.
"-you OWNED that song!"
In unified surprise, the twins' smiled.
"You mean it?"
"You think we hit it out? We really practiced."
Nightwing nodded.
"My folks were on the move a lot. Their 8-Track would play 'Don't Pull Your Love', 'Oh Domino', 'What A Fool Believes', 'Beach Baby', 'Hey Nineteen', 'Reelin In The Years'...all the classics."
The fight was forgotten, at least briefly. As henches, Min and Max got the tar beaten out of them on a regular basis. But musical kudos, from someone who knew the material? That was worth time in Arkham. Min looked ready to squee.
"We were almost gonna do 'Sky High', but because of that Disney hero movie, it's kind of looked down on in these parts."
Max looked just as ready to fly.
"Even though it's not in the movie, go figure. But this one does lend itself better to that faux-flirty thing we do."
Nightwing puzzled.
"So that's deliberate?"
Min shrugged.
"Our Dads hate it for the homophobia it implies-but all the girls-well, most of the girls-come over after and try to 'save' us."
Max grinned.
"Repeatedly. Not a great commentary on our society, sure. But you take what works."
Nightwing, certainly a man with a ledger of his own, asked no more. But he did add one last thing before rejoining Batman and Harley.
"Umm, just curious. Does Two-Face have a problem with the song?"
Min was now the one to look puzzled, and Max quickly followed.
"The Boss?"
"Why would he?"
Nightwing raised his hands in a calming gesture.
"Woah, guys. I just meant with his Two thing going on, Harvey might object to you singing a song by a trio."
As he left, the twins began to panic.
"It's a duo! Hamilton Joe Frank-and Reynolds!"
"No, pale copy for brains! They're a quartet-Hamilton, Joe, Frank, and Reynolds-oh, GEEZ!"
"Harvey hates three!"
"Remember when he shot out all the tables and stools-just because?"
The two ran over to the departing Batman.
"Howzabout all the info we have-just for protection?"
"You don't know how he gets! One guy who tapped out a Three Dog Night song lost use of his fingers!"
Batman sighed.
"I'll make an arrangement."
HOURS LATER, THE JUSTICE LEAGUE WATCHTOWER
The arrangement had not been a high priority.
Booster Gold looked at the pair, and began the interrogation.
"So-you two know-"
He pondered.
"Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey?"
