It was another warm, sunny day in Los Angeles, but as far as Carlos and James were concerned it was the perfect day for a lazy Sunday. They worked so hard all week long in rehearsals that they had been looking forward to some time to just relax and be alone. As usual, James had slept over Carlos' house, along with his dog Fox. Though the two were together nearly all day, every day during the week, it somehow wasn't enough.
Carlos stumbled downstairs, rubbing his eyes sleepily. Sydney bounded down the stairs after him, wagging her tail excitedly. Carlos let her out into the backyard and then stumbled to the kitchen to make some coffee. He spotted James lying on the couch and called out a raspy 'good morning' to him before sniffing the air. "Did you cook?"
James smirked and got up from the couch, stretching his arms over his head. In the process the tight white wifebeater he'd worn to bed rose up a little, exposing a few inches of rock hard abs and tanned skin. "Of course I did. I know you love my cooking."
"Don't bother being modest or anything," Carlos grinned, as James made them both up a plate of the breakfast burritos he'd made. He carried Carlos' plate into the living room along with his own while Carlos carried two mugs of coffee. They settled onto the couch to eat and watch really bad Sunday morning TV.
Sydney came in from the backyard, yawning and settling down near their feet. Fox, who had been snuggled up in Sydney's dog bed up until that point, wagged his tail happily upon seeing his friend and went to join Sydney, curling up at the bigger dog's side.
Carlos cut off a piece of his burrito with his fork and held it up to James' lips, causing the taller boy to laugh softly and blush. "Carlos, I can feed myself," he reminded him, but he opened his mouth and allowed the fork to pass his lips.
"I know, but I wanted to feed you." Carlos took his own bite of food. "Mmm, this is delicious Papi." He told him. James smiled almost shyly, glancing down briefly.
The two were content to eat quietly while watching cartoons, completely comfortable in their silence. That was one of the reasons they worked so well together, because they didn't have to always be talking or always be doing something. Just being together was always good enough.
After breakfast was over and the dirty dishes had been taken to the kitchen, Carlos snuggled into James' side, resting his head on his boyfriend's shoulder. "I love you," he murmured, leaning up to speak the words in his ear.
James pressed a soft kiss to the top of the Latino's head. "I love you more."
"Nuh uh!" Carlos exclaimed. "No way." He shook his head firmly, and James just smiled. "But I do."
Before Carlos could protest again, Sydney came leaping up onto the couch, settling herself right in the middle of both their laps. "Hiya, Syd. Hey girl." James cooed, petting the dog's soft fur. Not one to be left out, Fox hopped right up into the middle of the action, settling practically on top of Sydney. Carlos and James laughed, and Carlos leaned down to press a kiss to the little dog's silky fur.
"It's like we're a little family," James blurted out, and as he turned his head to look at Carlos the two briefly locked eyes before both men looked away, blushing furiously.
"The Pena-Maslow family," Carlos spoke up after a short silence, looking at James once more and biting his lower lip shyly. "I like the sound of that."
