Mello sat at the desk, head buried in fists. This was not fair. Near was probably steps ahead of them, and here he was at three in the morning going over the few clues he had again. He needed to infiltrate Kira, and he needed to do it soon. Before more people died, before Kira became even more powerful…

Mello sighed, rubbing his sleep dried eyes. He glanced over at Matt who had fallen asleep at his computer, head bowed down against his striped chest. When did things get so complicated, Mello wondered to himself. Days like this almost made him miss his Whammy's years with Matt…Almost.

"Mello! Mello, wake up. It's snowing!"

A small fist grabbed Mello's shoulder and jostled him. Had he been more awake, Mello would've punched, but in his sleepy-state, all he could do was bat at the hand groggily.

"Lemme go," he whined into his pillow. But the voice wasn't going to give up that easily.

"No, come on! It's snowing!" He said the last bit as if this never ever occurred in England's brittle climate.

Mello felt his resolve waning as he sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes. He looked over at the small red-haired boy wearing a grin that seemed too big for his face. His resolve caved in. Stupid Matty and his stupid smile, Mello thought to himself as he pulled off the covers. Matt looked absolutely ecstatic.

"Alright! C'mon, the others are already out there."

"What about class," Mello asked as his pulled on his long-sleeved shirt.

"Canceled," sighed Matt happily, as if this was the best thing ever. Mello grumbled something about useless activities and the importance of learning before following the red head out the door.

The day passed with snowball fights and snow angels until the sky turned dark and the nannies made them come in for the day. This was fine with Mello; Matt had decided it would be downright hilarious to stick a fistful of snow down his trousers and he was still cold.

Inside the children made their way to the dining hall to grab some hot cocoa before bed. Mello was able to successfully sneak his and Matt's mugs back into their rooms without being noticed. The two friends sat together on Mello's bed, cuddled together with their warm drinks.

Mello was just finishing his rant on Near and his stupid better grades when he felt Matt's head sag onto his shoulder. Mello stopped talking and looked down to find Matt fast asleep, his empty mug still in his hand. Mello smiled, placing his head atop Matt's. It was one of his best days at Whammy's.

Outside the world was snowing, but Mello didn't notice. His eyes were focused on the slumbering striped figure hunched on the couch. Matty had always been faithful to him, always. Mello sighed, tucking a stray lock of hair behind his ear. There was so much at stake…
