A Gift from Gallifrey
The Doctor pulled a pendant out of his pocket and held out his hand.
"I want you to have this," he said, offering it to Rose. She took it gently and held it up to the light for a better look. It was a small, pearlescent, blue-green disc mounted in a thin band of silver, with a delicate silver character curled through the centre.
Without asking, she knew it was a Gallifreyan symbol; she also knew there was no point enquiring about its meaning- The Doctor looked embarrassed enough already.
Rose suddenly felt the shape of tiny engraved letters on the back and looked at him questioningly. He shuffled his feet, large ears tinged red. "A piece of Home, given to the one who anchors when Home is gone," he mumbled, avoiding eye contact.
"Oh Doctor!" Rose stepped closer and threw her arms around his neck, "This is really special, thank you." The Doctor nodded and pulled away, his eyes glistening with tears, catching her hands between his. He looked her in the eyes: "I'm so glad I met you." Rose smiled, tongue between teeth,
"Me too!"
Side by side, The Doctor and his companion strode off to find adventure.
