Elaine Benes slid into the church pew next to Jerry Seinfeld and their friends George and Kramer. Church had always seemed like a farce, a spectacle to her. But watching someone convert from Judaism to Christianity was ridiculous!
And it seemed like a spectacle and an insincere one at that, as the group watched Mr. Lippman get baptized. After the ceremony, he approached them.
"Elaine!" Lippman kissed her by means of greeting. Elaine accepted it, displeased as she was. He's only renounced Judaism to show me up, she thought.
