"I can't do this." Lindsay confesses softly from the passenger seat as Nick puts the gear into park and promptly removes the key from the engine.
"Yes you can. And you will." He leans over and pats her knee.
"Yeah mommy!" Lindsay pivots in the seat and gives a smile to her near mini-me with the exception of Nick's eyes and hair she was all hers.
"I'm just nervous." Nick nods squeezing her knee.
"I know honey. But it's time to face them. We want Megan to know her grandparents right?" Lindsay nods staring at the garage door of her old house; a sight she had only seen photographers in over four years.
"Why?" She snaps turning towards her husband.
"Because it's time to let go of the past. It's time for forgiveness." They had gone over this before, several times. She always agreed and than would back over refusing to take that step. This was the first time they had actually pilled into the car and made the five and half hour drive. Throughout most of it Nick's and Megan's voices filled the air as Lindsay sat in silence going over memories and conversations.
"And they deserve it? They deserve a happy little surprise family reunion and we act like nothing happened?!" Nick nods.
"Yeah we do honey. I am mad at what they did you know that right?"
"I was seventeen." She says softly. They knew one day and likely sooner than they either wanted Megan would learn she was conceived when both her parents were still teenagers, in high school. That it devastated and more so angered her grandparents especially her grandfather and her grandmother always the sheep played along. To the point they kicked out their only daughter. Broke off all contact. Just two letters were send to them; the birth announcement and two years later the wedding announcement. Neither received a reply.
"He didn't want me, She didn't want me." Lindsay fights away the tears,
"Time has past. Maybe…"
"Nick I'm sorry but I can't do this. I won't do this. You. Megan. Are all I need. They don't deserve us. Can we please leave?" Without saying anything he turns the key in ignition puts the gear into reverse.
"Thank you."
