Monsters

"What is this alleged 'monster' under my bed and in my closet?" Kaine asked, taking his mother into his room. He got on his bed and looked under it, his long hair tied in a ponytail draping down.

"Why?" Raven asked, "Are you afraid of it?" She found this highly unlikely because, one, they lived in a dimension with vampires, werewolves, mummies, all those monsters, and two, Kaine didn't seem the kind to fear, well, and admit it.

Kaine jerked his head up, hair flying behind him.

"No," he answered, "I want to know who this monster thinks he is being in my room, invading my privacy, under my bed or in my closet. I want it out. Put it in Haylie's room or something."

Raven chuckled. She should have expected this. After all, with Raven and Wykkyd's high sense of privacy and lack of fear, what did she expect?

"He?" Raven asked. Was that sexist? Assuming a female couldn't be a monster.
"Who said this 'monster' is a boy? What if it's a girl?" she asked.

Kaine, who had moved on to looking in the closet, looked up.

"A g-girl?" he asked, eyes widening.

He closed the closet door and walked, wide-eyed, without a word, out of his room and down the stairs.

Raven smiled, chuckling again.

The only thing worse to a six-year-old boy than monsters:

Girls.
