Author's notes: Got this idea after watching Shattered. For a moment there, I thought Melinda was going to die! I don't think this is that good, but I tried.
Post Ep. Shattered
Olivia's hands were stained with the doctor's crimson blood; her soul starched with pure, tear drops; the fallen drops of tears and blood blended to a point where one could not decipher where one began and the other ended. The woman had merely been there, standing there in morgue, at the wrong moment. This was not the way it was supposed to be. Melinda was supposed to be the one dealing with dead corpses, not being close to becoming one herself. Oh, the irony at how these roles were quickly reversed.
"Sophie!" Olivia had pleaded with the crazed woman, "Put the gun down."
But this crazed lady had been too far gone at this point, and her fingers pulled the trigger. Fast reflexes caused Detective Benson to duck for cover. However, the woman behind her hadn't been so lucky and fast.
"Melinda!" Olivia had exclaimed, close to tears at the sight of her friend, lying on the morgue floor, all bloodied and wounded.
Pressing hard on the wound, Olivia begged "Sophie! We have to take her to a hospital!" Her hands were quickly being covered in her friend's blood.
The French woman could not see the reality of the situation, she would not allow anyone to leave the room, nor to enter the room.
"She'll die if you don't!" Olivia had insisted, while pressing hard on the wound. "Sorry" she murmured at the doctor's yelp, but the woman shook her head and had said she was doing well.
Just when she had thought things could not get any worse than they were already are, Melinda struggled to breathe. She had been slowly losing oxygen as the blood traveled and filled her lungs.
"Then get ready to watch me die!" Melinda had wheezed when Olivia was being squeamish and could not bring herself to cut her friend open on the side and stick a tube.
Not ready to witness her friend become another dead body in the morgue, she did all she could. Cutting her with the scalpel, and pushing the tube in, the blood, that had gathered in her lungs, seeped out, covering the floor in a puddle of blood.
Breathing again, Melinda smiled as best as she could with the pain.
"Do you think your son would want to see that?" Olivia had heard Jo talking to Sophie, using her temporary crazy ideas and thoughts against her. Would her son want to witness a person die because of his mother? No. Not really.
"Okay." Sophie had agreed, "She can go!"
Together, Olivia, Jo, and the man who had caused all of this, helped put the bloodied doctor in the gurney, while Sophie slowly unlocked the morgue door, and held it open.
Olivia with Melinda slipped out, and Sophie shut the door behind them.
"I need medical assistance now!" Olivia had shouted, and she could barely hear herself speak over her worrisome thoughts.
As she handed the woman off to the paramedics, she sent a silent prayer that her friend would make it.
