Heart of Ambrosia II

I stand slowly. Beryl shakily comes to her feet beside me. It took a thousand years to arrive at this confrontation. We are still in the dungeon, dreary as ever. She had started this savage game by tying my life to hers, and then I had turned the table. Now if she dies, I die, and vise versa. If this had been any other time, I would have killed myself just for the honor of taking her with me. Moments before, I made that move, only to back out at the last instant. I had let the energy sword I had stabbed myself with dissipate into nothingness, thereby damaging nothing. The face of Beryl mirrors her emotions. She is at once relieved, shaken, and enraged. I find some satisfaction in that.

"You see then, do you not? I am more of a threat to you than you could ever be to me. I am not afraid to die; but you're right, I do have more to live for now," I hesitate as I consider my next words, then plunge on, "It would be in both our best interests to call a truce. Never return to this galaxy, and I'll not get in your way." Her shrewd eyes search me for any possible hidden agenda. I know there are other galaxies out there; many of them like this one. Someone, somewhere will have to face Beryl. I just hope they are stronger. As for earth and I, this is the best way.

"Very well. I was considering some…real estate…elsewhere anyway." She all but hisses, "Just remember, I will be watching you." Then Beryl disappears. I walk silently up the stairs into Elysion and out the gate. A car rushes past me and the sounds of the city stand in sharp contrast to the place I have just left. Tokyo, have to love it. I head home with one thought running through my mind, this is only the beginning.
