Running.
He was calm at first, walking slowly while looking around for the blonde teen.
It was different now. Walking wasn't an option anymore.
Miwa really was missing.
He wasn't sick, he wasn't playing truant, he wasn't at home.
He was nowhere to be found,
and that could be his fault.
Kai Toshiki, he thought to himself while running to Miwa's possible whereabouts, what kind of best friend are you?
Maintaining that stoic expression, glaring at everyone in sight, ignoring Miwa's jokes and giving curt replies. That was all normal for him. However, he made one fatal mistake.
Ever since that day in school, he knew there was something wrong with Miwa. Usually, Miwa would go to his table and go on and on about irrelevant topics that Kai didn't care about. He would also joke around, poke him with a pen or tease him whenever a girl confesses to him. They would also play Vanguard during breaks and of course the victor would always be Kai. However, that day, Miwa did nothing of the above.
He greeted Kai normally with a 'Yo, Kai." But it didn't have a cheerful sense to it. In fact, he sounded sad and he was not as bubbly as before. His eyes were blank and he looked as if he hasn't slept for days. Did Kai care? Partially. Did he show that partial care? Not at all. He simply gave his signature nod and looked out the window. He thought that perhaps Miwa slept late because of his overdued homework, and he didn't give any second thoughts to Miwa's abnormal behaviour. He should have paid Miwa more attention. He should have asked Miwa and showed concern. He should have.. he should have..
After the bell rang that day, Miwa didn't even persuade him to go to Card Capital, which was what he normally did. Even though Kai always declined, he made it a point to ask Kai every single day without fail, in case he changed his mind. Yes, everything was weird about him day. Miwa immediately ran out once class ended. Did Kai notice something was wrong? Not really.
Every day, the blonde teen with bloodshot eyes and dishevelled shirt came to school as per normal. He still greeted Kai but that was it. No conversation, no jokes, no fights. Kai noticed the change in behaviour but he didn't bother to ask Miwa what was wrong.
"Miwa-kun.. Are you alright?" a concerned female classmate went towards Miwa's table.
"Mm." Miwa nodded and forced out a smile.
"If you ever need someone to talk to, just come to me, okay? It's painful to see you depressed like this.. Hope you get back to your bubbly self!" The girl grinned and skipped away.
"Get back to my bubbly self..? Impossible.." Miwa softly spoke to himself.
The next day, Miwa didn't even come to school. Kai called Miwa as he needed to deliver the homework but he didn't pick up. Thinking Miwa might have overslept and is still asleep, he went straight to Miwa's house, only to find a note on the door.
'VACANT' was pasted on it.
At that moment, he knew that something had happened to Miwa.
Something bad.
Something that made the ever so cheerful Miwa into a zombie.
If only he acted faster, if only he pried..
If only.. If only..
Running.
Running faster.
Searching for his lost best friend that he initially didn't care so much about.
"Miwa.. where the hell are you?!"
