Calm Before the Storm

A/N: Before I start, I would wish to say that the first few chapters of this story are actually part of my original work, except I added a few characters. For example, when I started writing this, Bowser Junior didn't exist as his present-day form and popularity. That's why he only appears in a few chapters, because I already had everything in the story's future set up before he appeared. Same with Clawdia; I never knew about her until around 2004 or so. I treat her as an OC more than an actual character as she hasn't made an appearance in a Mario game.

Daisy's story is the same as Bowser Junior's, except different in a way. Daisy, although not new, was treated more as a forgettable character until Mario Party 3 came out. I never played Mario Party 3 (I went from having Mario Party to skipping to Mario Party 4), but I have seen commercials and advertisements for it. After MP3 released, I pretty much liked her enough to toss her into the story, though I gave her no official opening or introduction. Other than that, she made an appearance in Super Mario Land and an NES Golf game.

At the time of this writing in 2013, Daisy is basically a popular Mario character who, after her 1989 appearance in Super Mario Land, now only appears in spinoff Mario games. Sadly, she hasn't appeared in any Super Smash Brothers games, but I am hoping that'll change!

Anyway, the first 14 chapters are part of my original work, and it has only been softly edited by me; the first... about 10 chapters are basically the exposition for this story, as well as the sequels. If you see a sudden shift in writing style in Chapter 15, then you'll know why; I have not gotten past Chapter 14 in the older days, so Chapter 15 actually been newly typed up in May 2013. However, despite me not typing up Chapter 15 until just recently, the whole idea for this fanfic is older than even my first chapter.

I WILL be going through here fixing typos and other grammar errors, so no worries. Feel free to point out any you see; it's a great help for me. Anyway; I hope you enjoyed this fanfiction, which has been nearly thirteen years in the making!

Part I: Kidnapping Plans

Chapter I

Time: 8:43 am – October 13, 2001, Mario's house.

One day- No, wait, that is too typical of an introduction.

A beautiful Saturday morning falls upon the Mushroom Kingdom, with an endless supply of sunshine raining down on the land. A sudden crisp, autumn breeze stirs the hilly landscape, kicking up dust and leaves in the air as it does so. Various species of birds are chirping as they prepare for the cold and snow as the falling red and yellow leaves expose their home every time a gust kicks up. None of that matters right now; the scene takes place indoors.

Mario and Luigi, wide awake due to the squawking of various bird species retreating south, are preparing their breakfast, as well as two cups of coffee.

"You know, bro," Luigi started his proposition, "I was thinking that we should go on a picnic later today. You know, Peach, Daisy, you, and me. We need the time to ourselves! Solving these multiple civil wars between the goombas and the toads is taking away my sanity. Plus, today is the start of Plit Weekend!" Luigi planned.

"I agree with that! These last nice days of the year are ticking down fast. I mean, look outside," Mario points to the kitchen window, "How about I call Peach and you call Daisy? I'll try to get Peach to bake one of her world-famous cakes for us, and the rest of us will agree to bring something?"

Luigi smiles broadly and said, "Yeah, whatever bro. We'll call our girls after breakfast!"

Time: 9:14am, Saturday, October 13, 2001, Bowser's Castle

"KIDS!"

Bowser was irritated; where in the world are those brats?! Sure, contrary to popular belief, he loves his kids to death, but being nearly fifteen minutes late to an urgent meeting is unacceptable, even taboo, in this castle.

The sound of running and stomping are heard for a few minutes before Bowser's eight kids stand before him. The eight express either a look of exhaustion or fear on each of their faces.

"Ve all arrived here dear daddyo. Please excuse us for being late, as ve all slept in! Ve totally forgot about zis meeting!" Ludwig apologized.

"Yeah yeah, then the tooth fairy came and asked you to do a favor. Anyway, kids, you all know the Plit Day celebrations, as well as the Plit Weekend festivals going on today and tomorrow, right?"

Monotonous grunts and mhm's are emitted from his children. Their dad hasn't been talking about anything but this for weeks.

"Umm.. Do you kids even know what Plit Day is about?" Bowser questioned.

All the Koopalings shook their heads. Bowser sighs and starts explaining the holiday to them.

"It has something to do with Plit being freed from an evil spirit, but, throughout time, the holiday transitioned into more of a celebration of Plit and all of its beauty. Plit's calendar originally had this date as the new year, and our calendar started on this day, but through time, officials did not like having October 15th to be the new year, so they moved it to January 1st. So now, two holidays branched off of one event. Well anyway, this is not a history class. This year's celebrations start on Monday; we need to come up with a plan to try to take Princess Peach, and preferably the Mario Brothers also, because we all know they just love to PARTY."

'I can't believe dat Dad is still going after dat chic. I would think he will give up after awhile. When will he accept defeat?' Roy whispered to Wendy. Wendy nods her head in agreement and giggles.

"Vell, dad," Ludwig, as well as the others, ignored the giggles emitted from Wendy, "I have spies around ze Mushroom Kingdom vhen I told zem to spy on E. Gadd. Zey reported zat E. Gadd now lives in Pipe Land, zen vun of zem picked up zat ze Mario Bros. and princesses vill go on a picnic later. Anyvay, I svear I vill be better zan zat old man in zat vhite co-"

"HEY, that's my line!" Bowser Jr shouted. Ignoring his younger sibling, Larry takes the floor.

"Isn't it obvious guys? We need to do something to their food to make them weak and submissive!" Larry shouted, pounding his fist on the table as he yelled. He, as well as Ludwig, appear to be the only wide-awake Koopalings present at the meeting.

"Good idea, but what should we use on their food, and how do we get that INTO their food?" Bowser asked.

"Simple. I am a great, sneaky, cheating spy; I can handle any task from robbing a bank to stealing a baby's candy. For the answer to your first question, ask Ludwig," Larry stated.

"Alright. Ludwig, experiment with some chemicals to make one strong enough to make them weak, but weak enough to not kill them. I want them all alive, not dead. Next time, do not be late to a meeting. MEETING AJOURNED!"

Meanwhile, in a dark, barren world, far from the reaches of the planet of Mario, rests a shadowy figure. The figure, which looks like the Shadow Queen in shape and form, is sitting on an ebony throne, grimacing at an object in front of her.

"Look at that! Those turtle things, they hate the other group!"

The figure giggles to itself, its head still focused on the object. After a few more moments of peering into the unidentified item, the figure, smile still implanted on its face, gets up from its throne, walks over to a strange telephone-like object, and screams into it.

"Troops! Come here to the throne room! It is finally time to get ready to capture the world of Plit! With the two main prophesied forces against each other, we will succeed! Let's bring darkness unto that world and show them the true meaning of power!"

Through the other end of the line, cheering is heard. The figure then hangs up the phone and smiles an evil grin.

"And nobody will stop me from conquering that planet!"
