She sighed.
She spotted Izzie on the first floor, next to the railing. She was talking excitedly to someone that Meridith didn't know. Izzie suddenly turned her head towards Meridiths direction. Seeing her, Izzie waved and started running towards the stairs. She ran all the way down to Meridith.
"Oh my god! Did you hear!" Izzie practically screamed, out of breath and excited, when she was within hearing range of her.
"Wha..."
"Head transplant Girl wokeup!"
"Huh?"
Two days ago, in the countryside right outside of Seattle, a little boy decided to go on a fishing expidition. A small creek ran through his backyard, about a mile from his house. He was a big boy, he just turned 9 last month, so his daddy said he could go all by himself.
He was carrying a tackle box and an old fishing rod, walking down the path. His foot hit something hard and he stumbled, almost tripping.
An hour later, she was being transferred via helicopter to be treated by Seattle's finest. Extensive blood loss, major brain damage... She had been barely breathing when they found her and was now onj life support. The fact that there was so little brain activity suggested that she shouldn't even have been doing that. All of the doctors were as completly confuzed as the interns were excited.
The couldn't find any relatives. The identity of the girl was unknown.
Both Izzie and Meridith had been there when Dr. Sheppard mentioned the brain transplant idea.
New technology, a cloned medula oblongada, could replace the damaged one in the girl, theoretically. They would have to wait to see if they could even operate. But, now, the girl was awake. It was a medical mystery.
It was legendary.
"...and then when I came in and George was like..."
"Wait, you're telling me that she's awake?"
"Yes! That's what I've been saying for the past ten minutes!"
"How is she..."
"Everyone is in there right now! Freakin' George, Christina... Well they are in there with Dr. Sheppard and I wannna go!"
"Dr. Sheppard?"
"You can get us in." A statement. A fact.
"Let's go." Izzie said while pushing her in the direction of the I.C.U.
Meridith stepped out of her grip and brushed off her labcoat.
"Okay, Okay."
