This was a writing challenge from The Review Lounge.
Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It: Write a drabble of exactly 100 words that incorporates at least one of these ideas: Love, Betrayal, Regret, Forgiveness, Hope. Also, include at least one of these prompts in some way: "horse," "sword," "magic," "dragon," "ray gun," "spaceship." Prompts can be pluralized (for example, "dragons") or turned into adjectives (for example, "magical") or part of a compound word (for example, "horseback") and need not physically be in the story (for example, you could just have a character thinking or talking about a dragon rather than actually having a dragon appear). Feel free to use as many of the ideas and prompts as you like, but it would probably be difficult to use all of them in just 100 words.
Svadilfara
Hot breath puffed in the cold morning air. The stallion's nostrils flared at the scent of musk on the breeze.
Muscles rippled and bunched, his shoulders lifted gently then he leapt, striking the cart behind him with both barrels. The builder cursed, showered with wreckage, but Svadilfara was now nothing but the distant thunder of hoofbeats echoing through the forest.
Smug in his mare's disguise, Loki anticipated his triumphant return. The wall would never be finished in time, the bet was won and the Aesir would bow before him. He just hadn't banked on the strength of a stallion's love...
For those who don't know, this is based on the Norse legend of how Loki gave birth to Sleipnir.
